Hecht centered that line until he was injured late in the year then Boyes went there for awhile. Connolly was usually between Ennis/Stafford when he was healthy

And that's the only time it felt like we actually had a #1 scoring line. While Connolly was the pivot between Van and Pommer.

Vanek/Hecht/Pommer tore it up from Jan 1st until Hecht's injury. Regardless of your feelings on the matter, Vanek/Pommer were a #1 line from the get go.

Boyes never centered that line. It was VHP/ECS then VCP/EBS when Hecht got hurt.

Thats right.

But my point still stands. Vanek/Pommer are what made that a #1 line regardless of their center.

The idea that Connolly is or was needed for that is laughable.

Oh, totally. And hell, Vanek specifically was producing with everybody last year. I remember the Ottawa game the night Rick Martin passed when he had a goal and an assist playing with Mancari and Goose. Against the Bolts, he had another big game taking shifts with Byron and McCormick. Vanek and Poms even beat the Bruins with McCormick between them for over half the game.
