I stopped listening to EEI last February when they got rid of Dale and Holley but 98.5 is doing exactly what made me hate EEI. I can't listen to Felger and Mazz anymore and Gresh and Zo are two Patriot Blowhards. Its unbearable. I find myself listening to music more often than not.
Gresh and zo, especailly Gresh, a blowhard I don't know what you are talking about Don't kid yourself Felger and Mazz should really be called Patriot talk 2, which is strange because you would think it would be more of a baseball show. I imagine it will be once the season arrives, but you never know Tom Brady could be getting a new haircut that day.
The thng I like about Felger and 98.5 is they will give opinions. EEI wouldn't dare say anything negative about the Pats or Sox. It was pathetic to listen.

The issue I have with that is the old saying "Opinions are like ***holes, everyone's got one."

Until recently I would have agreed with you 100%, but now that we B's fans have made it past the base of the pyramid of Maslow's hierarchy of needs when it comes to sports talk radio i think we are ready for the next level, quality of programming and informed opinion.

Sure, but I would never hear any other opinion on EEI except the Sox and Pats are going to win everything. You couldn't question Tito or Belichick...it was a*s kiss radio.
Felger will also admit when he's wrong and take his beating. Unless know it all Ordway has done a 180, he's never done that..
Both stations have flaws, but after listening to EEI from day 1, I'm willing to give 98.5 some slack. The rattings proved people where sick of them.

It's certainly approaching that same arrogance. I find that my single cd player in the car is getting much more use lately

I agree. They gave us the fix we needed and haven't taken it to the next step.
what? those 2 fossils are still on? you telling me the shelf life of the "sports personality for the 90's" Craig Mustard still hasn't expired?
As far as Sheppard...what the hell is wrong with that station?! Believe you me, there's a backlash a coming against 98.5, but unfortunately there is *still* nothing to go back to.
I think - I'm not certain - that Mustard and Johnson were dropped in the EEI retooling but were later brought back. I just turn on the radio in the car on Saturdays long enough to hear "Looshick" and I switch to NPR.

good lord. What, they couldn't find Guy Manailla? (sp?)
They went to shorter commercial breaks.
They became an ESPN Radio affiliate.
They simulcast Dennis and Callahan on NESN.
They cut down on the political talk in the morning.
They tried hooking up with El Presidente of Barstool Sports in an attempt to be “hipper.”
They replaced Dale and Holley with Mutt and Lou.
They retooled The Big Show to become Ordway and Holley.
They added Mike Adams to The Big Show.
They moved to an FM signal at 93.7 FM.
They’re still getting whipped in the ratings by 98.5 The SportsHub.
Chad Finn dropped several hints in his chat and column last week that if the mid-day show doesn’t improve, Dale Arnold could find himself back in that time slot. He could replace Mike Mutnansky, with Lou Merloni remaining, or he could be paired with someone like Kirk Minihane – who it appears he’ll be doing a lot of weekend shows with in the coming weeks. (A warm-up period for building rapport before taking over mid-days?)
Could an old face be coming to play a role in this?
Quote:
If radio stations were NFL teams, WEEI would be the New York Jets right now. They’re in cap hell. Huge contracts given to John Dennis, Gerry Callahan and Glenn Ordway have handcuffed the station from making significant changes. You’ll notice that those three people are the only major personalities still in their same roles at the station.
They tried to low-budget the mid-day show, (the only timeslot they were winning at the time) and it backfired. Somehow they got Dale Arnold to sign a new deal, which still surprises me, and now they brought back Sheppard.
If the ratings continue to stay as they are, what further moves could come?
One might think this would be a win for the fan, seeing WEEI humbled in this manner. The problem is that 98.5 is the new WEEI. They’re every bit as cocky as WEEI ever was, and have started treating listeners in the same fashion. Some there seem to think, like WEEI did, that success is about the “talent” and not the content.
I like Felger, can't stand Mazz though. I don't think I've ever agreed with something he's said, maybe once in a blue moon. I don't think he has any clue about sports. I prefer the Big Show. They've started to talk about the Bruins now that they HAVE to, and Holley always has a good opinion on things. Ordway's a bit of a butt kisser though, but I generally agree with alot of what he says.
I despise Dennis and Callahan. They know zip about anything sports related and yet are the cockiest SOBs I've ever heard. Toucher and Rich are hilarious but it'd be nice if they talked about sports more.

Listened the other day and forgot how good Holley is. (I then had to shower afterwards)
I don't feel loyalty to any station. I guess I'm in the minority, but I just listen to whover's talking sports, hopefully hockey. When they annoy me, or go to ads, or one of their silly little montages, I hit the button and try to find someone who's talking sports.
I do end up like this quite often....
Tell you what I hate. They get a lousy caller, maybe a drunk or just a moron, and instead of moving on, because the caller sucked, they play it over and over again, and then talk about how bad the caller sucked. And then they play it again in the final wrap up.
dont worry as soon as football is over they'll get to the bruins, be patient oh wai....
Well, they HAVE to talk about the courtship of Peyton, don't you know. And when he chooses a team, they'll HAVE to talk about how it will affect said team. That should be good for the next month or so.

Meh. I'm used to the radio stations carrying the Bruins in the carseat, it's been like this for years. Like any other ban wagonner, they'll start piping up once the playoffs start and they know people are listening to hear about them. Til then it's flavor-of-the-month coverage of whatever gets Sportscenter highlights, unless they've changed their stationery distributors at Fenway or some other such momentous Red Sox occasion. It is what it is. We dance in the hollow of the cup of nothingness, as Henry might say.
