I'm pretty sure CBJ could at least jump from 30th to 26th and then we're no closer to getting McKinnon but one year further from having a high pick. I think there's too much risk.

aside from the sheer stupidity of trading a lottery pick for a potential lottery pick, your "eastern european" comment was both idiotic and flat out wrong.

I would trade yakupov for mackinnon in a heart beat. but there is no guarante that we would get mackinnon next year so no. We'd probabley end up getting screwed over. I want brenden gaunce. That's the center we need. Canadian. I hope yakupov, galcheyuk, and grigerenko are gone by the time we draft. so that PG is forced to take gaunce.

Datsyuk, Pavel

Malkin, Evgeni
Yzerman not Federov (he was great though)
Dats... okay you got that one
Malkin, making a case this year...but Crosby was the man the year they won the cup.

Notice how your list is not too long ... hmmm

selective memory is my excuse... but Chara is certainly an obvious example

unless you believe in the faulty premise that any one player ever truly "carries" a team to the cup by themselves, every cup winner has at least a few players who were the catalysts for their teams success.

Fedorov, were he not of eastern european descent, would have been far more "hyped" than he was. On top of being every bit the offensive weapon Yzerman was, he was quite legitimately the best defensive forward on those cup winning Red Wings teams (and that says a lot for a team that had guys like draper & maltby excelling in shut down roles.

the list isn't that long in large part because "eastern europeans" only make up a small % of players in the NHL compared to Canadian/American & "western european" players, and b/c there were essentially no Eastern European players in the league prior to the early-90's.

finally, yes, it would be stupid to trade a "sure" 2012 lottery pick for any teams 2013 draft pick, b/c as much as you may feel strongly that the Jackets will finish at the bottom of the league next year, that is far from a certainty and not, in any way-shape-form, a reasonable or worthwhile "gamble".

If we get the first overall no. But after that, I would be ready to add NSH 2nd this year to our own 1st to get Huberdeau.

Teams don't think they are going to finish near the bottom of the league.

regardless, the return for Plekanec wasn't the point of my post. Trade him for whatever you get, just try to ice a team in my post.
The habs organization didn't know how good McDonagh would be. Toronto didn't think they'd be last, or close to it 2 years in a row.

Why would teams pass on Datsyuk until the 6th round ? Your logic is flawed. Columbus tried once to make a quick rebuild, but it didn't work, so they're not going to trade a potentially better pick for a lesser player.

As for UFAs ... well would you want to sign with a 30th place team and play in OHIO!!
A lot of players go where the money is.

I wouldn't do it.

Ryan may be the same player but there is a risk that his production drops minus Getzlaf and Perry.

would love to see our new GM this summer go hard after M.Boedker from Phx...

aside from the obvious national ties, I think he'd be a great fit next to Eller. Both guys are good skaters with a strong 2-way game, both play with intensity & some physical implication, Eller is a bit more of a shooter while Boedker a bit more of a playmaker...

not sure what it would cost.

start with:

To phx
2012 2nd
2013 2nd
palushaj

To Montreal
Boedker

and adjust from there

No

Just ditch Gomez in Hamilton

No reason to give up Subban in this. We already lost one top dman getting Gomez to begin with, why do we want to throw away another?

I thought Boedker and Eller didn't get along.

Don't see why Phoenix would touch that deal with a 10 foot pole.

Do you guys think Tomas Plekanec could become available this summer?

Hawks have been dying for longterm #2 C for a while now and he would be perfect

McNeill + Hawks 2012 1st (Or 2013 if Habs prefer) for Plekanec? Thoughts

What's wrong with Sharp?

I can't see the Habs trading Plekanec for picks and prospects.

The only way I see it happening is if a guy like Kane Seabrook or Sharp was involved.

For some reason (Either Q or Sharp) he isn't playing C this year

He does do better at LW but still you would think a team as weak as Hawks at C would use a proven C like Sharp

And if Hawks could get a #2 C like Plekanec via trade it would be huge going forward

Sharp-Toews-Kane
Saad-Plekanec-Hossa

^
Nice
