b/c jagr had the puck so much and kept it in the offensive zone so much, he got more assists than a normal elite playmaker (and also more shots, goals, points, etc).

Great point.
Jagr's one of, if not the greatest puck possession player ever. I could understand how someone could argue along the lines of "if Marc Savard was able to protect the puck, score goals, and thus have the overall offensive arsenal that Jagr possessed, then he could have racked up just as many assists."
At the end of the day though, actual production has to account for something IMO.
