yeah add all the physical tools to the fact that he is a smart kid and the potential is there. He knew if he wanted to be a regular he had to limit his mistakes and he has, he also knew that he would have to bring a physical element to the games and he has. Seems very coachable and at his age he still has 10-15 years in the league. hopefully he morphs into a beast and Dumba/Murray can play second fiddle to him. if that is the case then we will be a very very good team.
I'm starting to think this too. If Murray is as good as he is hyped to be, and already NHL ready, he and Petry could be a solid top pairing in just 2 seasons. Maybe instead of fishing for the big free agent, we can just build a solid core behind them? (Smid and Schultz aren't a bad start). Buy guys like Kubina until Klefbom/Marincin are ready?
Petry is actually starting to look like that player everyone talks about in the draft threads. The top pairing d-man that you can find in the 2nd round if you develop properly.

I'm not sure how true this is. We certainly let him take his time and develop, but I'd argue that it has more to do with his drive. He's shown he'll do anything to be the best at what he does. I'm not sure he'd be any worse if we rushed him to be honest. How we managed to get a player like him with Prendergast is a mystery to me
Petry's confidence to make plays and POSITIVE visibility in most of the games I've watched over the last few months allows me to believe that the defence may need a little less work than people anticipated, which is a good thing for this rebuild.

Ya, I mean Petry becoming a boss is the most important thing that has happened in Oilerville in the second half of the year. Our D suddenly went from "needing a tonne of work" to "Not bad with some tinkering and flat out great if we add one stud D-man".

Please he doesn't have the drive to get rid of his squeaky voice, bottom pair at best
I'll allow you both 3.5 seconds each to look at the picture of me on my avatar in which you can deduce my profession. Then you can decide whether I is being t3h sarcasms

I knew you were. I also can't look at your avatar anyways. I'm on my phone.
A few games back, Spectre said that Petry was the future of the Oilers defence. Pretty big words but I do think he will be a huge part. He's shown so much ability and improvement and there is still so much he could work on. Been high on him since I first saw him and very glad he's proving himself.
I'm pretty excited about our defence a few years from now. I just hope the other pieces we need to be a cup contender will be in place by then.
Petry and Smid are giving us some hope for the future. Truth be told we could use a couple more guys like them. Schultz can be a good top 4 guy for us and whether Whitney regains his form or we have to look outside the organization for another top 3 guy, we need to add another higher end guy. Klefbom is a guy that might get there in time but he's at least a year or two out IMO.

at this juncture (regardless of whether we draft a defenceman or not) I would be okay if they could somehow get a suter or weber on board.
I don't really believe the odds of that are high, but I wouldn't be against it just because of that...if petry, smid and shultz can all fill spots 2-4, then that'd really speed things up in terms of the rebuild.

You're a rapper? I'd ask you to rap about the Oilers but Mowzies got that covered. Sorry 3.5 seconds wasn't enough.
This guy keeps getting better and better every shift, is he our #1 guy?
OUR #1 guy, yes. A #1 guy? No... atleast... not yet. But he looks like he could compliment a #1 d-man very well on that top pairing.
I don't get to see many games out there, but I watched the last bit of the San Jose game, LOVED how much his physical game has stepped up. Guy was making smart plays at both ends of the ice.
He's looking good and finding chemistry with Smid. Our top-4 for next year looks like it could be competent*
Health pending.
If we sign 2 more guys... yeah. We need 3 guys that can challenge for that 2nd pairing (with the loser playing in the 5 position, fighting to push his way back in) Schultz can be one of those guys, but I'm not sure we can count on Whitney anymore.
