You know the huge amount Columbus wants for Rick Nash...well double that and you might get close.
That makes no sense.
That's giving up half your team for one player, who coukd just walk away and sign with another team.
Nash is signed, Crosby wouldn't be. The only way he gets that kind of return is if its a sign and trade.

Crosby is signed next year too. Besides I think we all know that Crosby is alot better then Nash.
Sorry master. I was attempting to be very facetious. But you are right. Him, or his rights, will not be traded.
I understood the sarcasm, my irritation was more directed at the thread in general.
This thread was dedicated to the hypthetical trading of Crosby's rights as a UFA but people have turned it into a "Will Crosby be traded or not". Trading a player does not equal trading his rights. Crosby will never be traded if he re-signs with Pittsburgh, but I can easily see the possibility of his rights being traded if Pittsburgh doesn't want to sign him (or he doesn't want back into Pittsburgh). Assuming the player isn't re-signing with you, there is literally 0 downside to trading a player's negotiating rights.
I would say they absolutely do. Only today, that cash is in the form of cap space.
Cap space and cash are not even almost the same thing. If Crosby played for a bankrupt franchise and could return 100's or millions then he may be traded but that cannot happen.
Stafford and a conditional first is not enough but that has been said enough
Pitt will not let Crosby go and Crosby (as far as I know) doesn't want to go anywhere anytime soon
Buffalo would have to give up something they do not want to give up
He has gone on record saying that the plan is to remain a penguin for life. He has stated in interviews that he wants to follow in lemeuixs footsteps. Keep dreaming HF keep dreaming.

This is not the point, we are assuming that Pitt is not re-signing Crosby. Stafford + a conditional 1st is probably an overpayment and I wouldn't see Buffalo doing this unless they were certain Crosby would sign with them.

...there's a huge difference between an owner trying to keep his ass out of bankruptcy and cap space. Cap space isn't going to be the issue for the Penguins here, what Crosby brings to the team is worth more than the cap space he occupies.
The only reason Gretzky got traded was because of Peter Pocklington's financial issues. The Penguins primary owner is a guy worth something in the neighborhood of $3.4 billion (making him the 2nd or 3rd richest individual owner in the league). Even if the Penguins were owned by Howard 'Fake Money' Baldwin again it wouldn't matter...trades involving cash aren't allowed any more and Crosby makes far more money for the team than he's paid.
Crosby will retire a Penguin. I have zero doubt in my mind about that. He's Mario's protege in every single way...and we put up with decades of people claiming that Mario was going to 'return home' to Montreal to fulfill his 'lifelong dream' of playing for the Canadiens.

To the people who disagree with my post...okay. We will keep Crosby. Fine by us.
The people disagree with your post because it was a post that: a) clearly missed the point of the thread, and b) was so full of homerism that it made everyone cringe.
I highly doubt Crosby in his current health state doesn't get moved for an offer like Weber, Suter and 4 1st round picks. lol.
And if you still haven't figured it out yet, the OP was asking for his UFA RIGHTS (with the premise/scenario that he was considered a major health risk by all other 29 teams).
if Crosby ever became a UFA which i doubt, he would sign with the Habs. guaranteed
Just out of curiosity, why? Because a reporter asked him a while ago after a game in Montreal where he had been mercilessly booed about how he dreamed of playing for the Habs and he said something like "I probably feel differently now." Plus he doesn't love the spotlight & he'd get a lot worse there.
