Kane is a dominant offensive player, a mean sonofagun, strong as an ox, and still hasn't come close to his potential.

I think he means defense.

I guess we'd ask for more, but if we *were* to trade JT, Kane is the type of player I'd look for. He'd be a great fit with Couture. He's big and can skate. And I'd be fine with letting Couture and Kane be spoon-fed soft minutes, I'm certain that Marleau/Pavelski could eat the tough minutes.

Kane isn't a Selke candidate, but he is a plus 10 on a team that is -11 in goal differential. He would also lead the Sharks in hits.

Eh, Kane is extremely sheltered, that plays a big part in it, and despite easy minutes he's one of the worst in GAA/60 on the Jets.

He's just that good offensively that he makes up for it.

Winnipeg will not part with Kane unless a similar piece is going back (couture) a young productive player that isn't close to a finished product. imo

God I wish the Sharks would start winning. All this trade talk is hard to swallow.

Ok, back to it.
Trade Marleau.

Change the strategy from taking the puck to the boards and cycling (the worst thing that has happened to hockey) to putting pucks on goal and driving the net. Done.

I'll take that bet big guy! And I would have taken it a month ago too.

This current incarnation of team teal has lost its mental prowess of breaking through the rough waters. Spoiled by poor performances that gained praise instead of criticism and previous years coasting into the post seasons.

I'd actually think not making the post season would be the best thing for em. It'll change their mindset like a slap in the face. Give them a taste of reality.

Given our horrible play of late, the injuries, the obvious crisis of confidence in our starting goaltender and the fact that we will be playing a lot of these remaining games against teams fighting us for the last playoff positions in the West, do you think we're more likely than not to go better than 12-9-3 down the stretch? If so, based on what? What is going to magically make us play better down the stretch? A few more home games?

Watching the Sharks right now, they do not appear to be playing anywhere near the level they were playing during the first half of the season. Unless there is a huge improvement in play or a deal or an injury return that sparks the team, I think there is a very real danger of the Sharks not making the playoffs. And if the Sharks don't get at least 2 points out of the last two games of this road trip...
Is it bad form to quote yourself in a thread? Too soon to call tonight's game in Phoenix a must win game? Sure feels like one to me.

Thread on trade board saying Jackets will move 1st overall pick at draft. So clearly if Sharks fail it's hello Nash + Yakupov to SJ at the draft.

It would take Couture AND Pavelski ... but they are the only capable centers we have for the future so it aint happening.

Clowe, Petrecki/Nieto, 1st for 1st overall. Yakupov is a right winger too.

Clowe, Petrecki, Nieto, 1st and 2nd for Yakupov. I'd still add.

To be honest, depending on how he plays in the playoffs, I would do Pavelski+prospect+1st for Yakupov.

As if DW would draft a Russian. We'd be getting a good hard working american or 67.

The possible Thornton trades are funny. Especially for Kane. I still don't understand why we would want to trade our number 1 center when there are others that need to be looked at.

The sad thing is, even if we do miss the playoffs, DW's response would be that we were too injured and too tired to make a difference; and that the team needs one more year to get used to each other.

Or he'll do something stupid and trade the wrong people.

He had a year where that would have actually been the smart thing to do and didn't do it. After 2008-09 when the team had one of the best starts in league history, he basically blew it up and got Dany Heatley. With Rick Nash out there, I wouldn't doubt the same thing would happen as it did then.

Instead of Ehrhoff, Cheechoo, and Michalek, it'll be Vlasic, Handzus, and Pavelski.

Swap Demers for Murray and I'm for it. We got to remember that Brad Stuart is incoming as well. If we miss the playoffs, I doubt we keep our rentals and we may even move Boyle and Niemi. Anybody that doesn't have a full clause will probably be on the table.

I would keep him if he wants to stay. Having a guy that can be plugged in at either forward or defense is good flexibility to have.

If I was the owner and this team misses the playoffs, I'm canning the GM and the coaching staff. I'd make Boyle, Clowe, and Murray available for futures and then see what's out there for others. I'd still go ahead and sign Stuart if he wants to come back. I would still avoid Rick Nash and I would see what Columbus would want for the #1 pick.
