Thanks to everybody for the kind well wishes. Bone Thugs I will do my best to be kind to you. Your shout out was great by the way. Allison has been busy covering the Big East basketball tournament in Hartford for the women. Now that that is over she should be back. If anybody knows how to create a cool avatar incooperating Kevin Dineen with the Whalers and Panthers and would be willing to make it for me, that would be great. Im not so computer savy unfortunately. Looking forward to my first GDT tomorrow night. Go Cats.
Thanks everybody for the nice welcome and my own thread ATF. Hoping as we all are that the Panthers give us some playoff hockey. It's been a LONG time since any team I have rooted for has done that. I remember going to the Mosaleum (sp) on the Island back in the mid 90's when the Isles had that miracle run one year (1993 maybe)and saw the game where Dale Hunter while playing for the Caps almost ended Pierre Turgeon's career with his cheap shot. My next door neighbor in the off season was Ed Tyburski who was the Islanders trainer and he would get me and buddies tickets to the Isles games alot. Other then that I attended maybe a handful of Whaler/Bruin playoff games in the late 80's/early 90's amd that never turned out well.
Was that the last game of the series, he delivered the hit right after Turgeon scored and was skating by ready to celebrate? Hunter cross checked him into the boards, or something like that.
I know you don't like the bruins for understandable reasons but speaking of dirty hits Neely's career was severely impacted by a dirty knee on knee by Samuelson (?) -- there's no place for that sort of crap.
I can only imagine what kind of penalties the NHL would be handing out for some of the stuff of old...
Born in Hartford, Moved to Florida the same year the whalers left in 97 , ever since then it has been so wired seeing the whalers influence in Florida, between the Peter karmanos owned Everblades, to Dineen coming to Florida, I'm proud to see everyone's love for the Panthers paying off again " Proud to be a WhalerPanther"
KW that indeed was the clinching game in the Patrick Division semifinals back in 1993. The Isles went on to upset Pittsburgh without Turgeon in the lineup in the next round before losing to Montreal in the Wales Conference finals. As for Neely and what Ulf did to him, it was a shame that he ruined his career but I enjoyed Ulfie in Hartford. They got around to retiring Kevin, Ronnie Franchise and Ulfie's numbers in a ceremony a few years back when Dineen was in town coaching Portland. Class move by the Rangers organization to have the ceremony and let 11, 10, and 5 hang in the rafters at the mall where they belonged.
Garriboy thanks for the welcome also. Hartford has really gone down drastically in the last 15 years since the Whale left town. They rebranded the WolfPack of the AHL to the Connecticut Whale last year but honestly it's not even close to the same. They play Brass Bonanza when the team comes out on the ice but again, it's not "my team" that's skating out there. I was so happy to see Winnipeg get their Jets back and it seems as though Quebec City could very well be getting the Nords back. However the story ends there as I see no chance of the NHL ever going back to Hartford and it's a shame. There is alot of money in that state and with the interest UCONN basketball has with the population you would think a new arena would be built regardless of whether or not the NHL promises to come back.

Good Evening/Morning everybody. Sorry that I haven't been on much the past few days but it's with reason. I am getting ready to have ACDF spinal surgery this morning on my C5-C6, C6-C7 and C7-T1. To say that I'm nervous is a complete understatement. For some reason I'm scared and this is coming from a guy who is a eight year cancer survivor. I want to thank everybody who has made me feel welcome in the short time I have started posting. I really don't know how often I will be posting in the near future and guess it depends on the pain level after the surgery. One thing you guys can do for me though is to dedicate Thursday's game to me. Everybody knows of my disdain for the Bruins and with as lousy as they are playing right now I really believe we can win on Thursday. That team is tired and just flat out not playing well at all. Chiarelli was quoted in the media saying Turco was going to start both games in Florida. Well we see how that turned out tonight.
I want a victory against them so bad. And when we beat them we will only be 2 points behind them in the standings. I remember somebody on this board telling me a week ago that the Panthers couldn't catch the Bruins after they beat the Leafs.
In any event I can't sleep so I thought I'd post this. Two more hours until it's off to the hospital and hopefully the end of my pain.
