Did this game reveal anything? Well, yes. It demonstrated why the Habs are 28th rather than 29th. It also showed that the Habs desperately need Markov to return. It suggested that it might not be a bad idea to use the first rounder on a Dman or perhaps even to trade down if the Habs could get the other team's first rounders in 2012 and 2013 plus another second rounder. That would give the Habs three firsts and six seconds over a two-year span. What, fans desperately want to draft a Russian in 2012? Well, there must be lower seeded Russians or Czechs who could also play for the Habs.
He's already on pace for 19 or so goals over an 82 game span, so I don't see why he couldn't do even more with regular PP time and increased ES time as well. Once we see him with more stable (and better) linemates, his playmaking side will come out more as well. He's a stud.
Yeah, people saying "20-20" centerman just...they just don't get it.
Eller is essentially Plekanec, with better puck handling, shot, and offensive creativity.
Good youth right there. I think Eller is right around the corner to breaking out into a 20-20 two-way centerman.
A 20-20 player is only good enough to be a third line center,
Team is going to need a second line center. Having DD
first line , plek second line and eller on third line center is weak
Got to get size and scoring on that second line
I've read countless times on HF that Subban as been a disappointment this year and I've never really understood it.. By the time the season ends his stats will be similar to last years points wise and his +/- is better this year so far plus he's playing a ton of minutes against top players..
There will be nothing but very good things to come from Subban and to think some here wanted this guy traded..
He and Plekanec are both being screwed on the +/- by empty net and shorthanded goals. Their true 5 on 5 +/- are much better. It's something of an artifact of being an important offensive player on a team that's lost a bunch of close games.

I agree with most of this post except that we should not take a Russian. Galchenyuk is hardly a Russian and certainly does not play like the typical one. But I would not be opposed to drafting another D, particularly if it was Murray. But our NEED is offense. We have some solid D in the system, although having too many can NEVER hurt.
Also, just wanted to comment on those posts that attempt to make Kaberle appear better by posting his stats; Kaberle is a liability in two major respects: 1. defensive ability and 2. weak physically. Sure, he can lug the puck up ice and still has solid offensive zone vision, but the reality is his body is out of shape and has aged. His hockey sense has never really been that good. He probably will remain with us next season, but only as the seventh defenseman.
Even if Markov returns, Habs will sign a top four defenseman, perhaps even Brad Stuart. Three - four year deal just to get it done and wait for Tinordi, Ellis and Beaulieu to develop PROPERLY ala Detroit in the AHL.
I think some of you are overrating Eller here a bit. I think he will be a 60 point player some day, but to say he is better than Plek in almost every respect is a stretch. I agree that he needs more ice time because he shows he improves when he is given it. However, Plek is a much better play maker and two way player. Also, to say his shot is better than Pleks is a stretch as well. He could be a player similar to Mikko Koivu if he rounds out his playmaking game.
So Filip Forsberg is not physical enough. Yet you choose maybe the softest palyer in this draft ...
Athanasiou aside.
We need another soft player, we don't have enough now lol
Drafting russian player's is not always a safe bet, one little thing
and they could bolt accross the pond.
Hope the habs don't get ****ed !!!
I have to side with him on this one. Price was getting a bit "stale" out there. He needs to pushed, all goaltenders and players do. We should have been playing Budaj more a long time ago.
Congrats MaxPac. Top 10 in NHL goalscoring. And some around here doubted his goalscoring ability. He's got more goals and almost as many points at $8M/season Parise.
Grigorenko + MaxPac is going to be insane (sorry DD).
