If the Nuge wants it he is going to have to take it out of Landeskog's hands.

I would say Pacioretty...who is actually even younger than Crosby. He was destroyed by Chara exactly one year ago, and now is having a more than decent season.

Henrique with two assists tonight; both were secondary ES.

I don't envision RNH catching Henrique, considering how both have been playing lately.

Henrique's having a hell of a rookie season but looking at the box scores (which I do after every Jersey game) he has a tonne of secondary apples. Feasting off Kovalchuk goals.

I am actually impressed with Read and am going to Eliminate Hodgson =)
RNH Needs to step it up and have a few two point games as he is currently on pace to finish 3 points behind Henrique.

45pts/59gp=.763*15GR=11+45=56pts NJD Henrique
40pts/47gp=.851*15GR=13+40=53pts EDM Nugent-Hopkins
43pts/69gp=.623*13GR=8+43=51pts COL Landeskog
39pts/63gp=.619*16GR=10+39=49pts PHI Read

some players come back from horrible injuries, illnesses and tragic situations.
I think in the old days a couple of winners were rewarded for having a long hardworking career.

not sure why crosby would even be considered. sure he came back from a concussion, but he only played 6 games. big deal.

Ian Laperriere I think is the only player I can recall that won because of concussion issues.
I think part of the reason he won was becauase of his mentoring work and serving the team in other capacities.
where is crosby's "sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey."?
Has he done anything to better his team or the game of hockey since he's been out?
all I hear are pleas to leave him alone.
bah.

You really don't think Crosby should be considered for the Masterton? I find that baffling.

He's only played a handful of games, but he could play more to finish the season.

And you don't think he's done anything to better the game of hockey since he's been out? Are you kidding? Crosby's injury really brought concussions/head shots to the forefront and his decision to speak out against head shots has had a huge impact. He's the most influential player in the game and certainly one of the most dedicated. I would be very, very shocked if he wasn't at least nominated for the Masterton.

I don't always like using secondary assists against a player. Especially with RNH is involved. There have been many times this season where he has or could have walked away with a secondary assist because he made a great play that has allowed a player to have an extra half a second to make the right play.

But just for the sake of doing it...

Henrique: 60 games- 45 points
Goals: 15
Primary Assists: 16
Secondary assists: 14

Nugent-Hopkins: 48 games- 41 points
Goals: 15
Primary Assists: 16
Secondary Assists: 10

Landeskog: 70 games- 43 points
Goals: 18
Primary Assists: 13
Secondary Assists: 12

Read: 64 games- 39 points
Goals: 19
Primary Assists: 8
Secondary Assists: 12

how are their plus minus?

For me due to injuries Nuge is not top 4 rookies this year

I think at this point, Landeskog is in the forefront due to the quality of opponents he faces and his physical play -- all while maintaining that high +/- (yes yes, I realize what most think of this stat) and still producing offence. It's too bad for the Nuge, but I don't mind seeing him lose out to a really good player like Landeskog.

Nuge really seemed to turn it up vs the avs, especially on the ice against landeskog.

Either way, him playing with hall and eberle should really help his chances, but at this point in time, it would be hard to pick him as ROTY

Right now I think it is between Landeskog and the Nuge. For RNH to win I think he might have to go on a bit of a scoring spree and separate himself from Landeskog. He's got it in him, but I think he may have missed too many games.

As much as I would like to see RNH win, I am really quite happy that Landeskog has done so well. Living where I do I got a pretty good dose of him as a junior. He is also a class act all the way, and a kid that any team would be happy to have.

I just hope the voters don't forget how RNH was playing at the start of the year. To give it to Landeskog just because Hopkins was hurt would be unfortunate.

Landeskog has really only had a dominate Feb(13pts in 12gp and a +9 for rookie of the month). The rest of his season has been steady but not spectacular. He's started slow in March with only 3 pts in 6gp and a -3.

RNH has won back to back Rookie of the Month in Oct(11pts in 11gp +4) and Nov(16pts in 14gp Ev). So far he's got 3pts in 5gp and is -1 to start March.

Of course Henrique could have something to say about it too. He tracks similar to Landeskog with a Rookie of the Month in December (13pts in 14gp +9). He's currently got 4pts in 6gp +1 in March.

IMO, If RNH can put together a strong March and grab another ROTM, he'll win this thing hands down.

For me, despite RNH's injury, it's been between RHN and Landeskog since mid Feb.

Anyway, Landeskog is in a slump right now (0 P - 3, although only in two games) and even though I don't want to jinx it I think RNH will have him beat by 5-8 points come end of the season. This means RNH wins.

People are putting a bit too much stock in Landeskog's situational play.

So what if he's used as a winger on the checking line sometimes?

Why is it that in the context of r.o.y. contention some people are holding it against RNH that he's already playing the premiere forward position on an nhl team?

If RNH outscores him by a decent margin despite playing 15-20 games less IMO he should win.

I do not get this talk of RNH having to outscore the competition by so many points to get the title. If you see the two player play you can tell RNH is the better player, he has played at least 12 less games then the two player above him in points. I will be disapointed if the rookie of the year goes to a player just based on stats RNH so easily have the calder locked up based on ice play.

I guess i look at it the other way rnh will be close on points on a much weaker team than all the other candidates. I am hoping the voters see the quality over quantity because if rnh does not get hurt i don't think it would have been close, he was on pace to be in the top 25 in scoring.

here's hoping for a big march so rnh can take over rookie scoring and lots of feeds to ebs to get him into top ten.
