Hossa allows trade to happen so he can be the hero in Long Island and help turn that franchise around with Tavares and crew.....yeah just go with it...
We use our 2012 pick to land Alex Galchenyuk the center we have been dreaming about getting for years....
We then are able to add some free agents with the moving of Hossa's salary and promote Saad into Hossa's spot allowing that kid top 6 minutes.
We take a monster chance on free agent Dustin Penner in hopes that he A. comes cheap B. gives up pancakes C. has rebounded from a horrible year with what seems like a messy divorce that threw this guy off.
You bring Penner in for around $2 mil per season and can also add a defenseman to the puzzle (a top 4-5 dman with some power play skills)$3 mil or so..Joe Corvo maybe....or Sheldon Souray
We then take our 2013 two first round picks and package them with Hjalmarsson and Frolik to move up to a top 3 pick and draft Nathan MacKinnon...
we now have 2 future superstars in Galchenyuk and Mackinnon, plus young gun Saad is playing top 6 minutes with Penner in the top 9 as insurance.

Keith - Leddy
Seabrook - Corvo??
Montador - Oduya
Olsen
Crawford
Emery
the end.
So our 2nd line is 2 rookies, our team would be horrible nevermind that goaltending and defense haven't gotten any better and by replacing Hossa with 2 rookies our forward defense it much worse too.
So scoring is down and defense is down. How are we better?
Plus what happens if Saad or Galchenyuk don't pan out, now we have HUGE holes and no way to fill them.

Any teams with less points than the Hawks getting to the CF would bumps us down. That includes Phoenix and Florida, despite them being the #3 seeds.
I thought that in the back of my mind. Kind of defeats the purpose of seeding for the playoffs.
"Phoenix get the advantage of home-ice because they won their division (despite having less points), but unless they get the the WCF, they'll also have a better pick than you."
I guess since this thread has gotten bumped.. I'll add some thoughts after watching some of the U-18s.
Brady Skjei (Shh-ay) - I really like this kid. He has the skating ability of Nick Leddy, but he plays with an edge. Not the playmaker Leddy is, but better defensively and, like I said.. a very, very smooth skater. I believe he's also listed at 6'1".
Nick Kerdiles - I'm a fan. He's a big body (6'1") and he can skate. I don't know that he's a 1st round pick, though in this draft class, he could be.. but I like him as a potential good 3rd liner down the road. For whatever reason, he reminded me of Ryan Kesler. Not as much of an edge.. but that's the comparison I kept thinking of. He's not my first choice but he made a solid impression.
Seth Jones - This kid is legit. He's just, simply, a beast. The Hawks aren't going to get him and he's not available until next year.. but not enough can be said about him.
I'll be watching Sweden vs. USA in the Gold Medal game if it's on TSN. Would like to see some Swede's for the upcoming draft and will post who stood out if the game is broadcasted.
Skjei is on my short list for dmen but dont know about his tool box and dzone play. As the article indicates and several reports say, hes a work in progress. His skating north/south is reported to be among the elite, even including forwards.
I have no problem with projections of him as top 4 dman but that 2nd line dman upside and thats fine with me. Not elite but good depth dman.
At least he can skate, not like some stiffs in the Hawks prospect pool.
If we trade for a later first-round pick we can get him where he is projected to go. Maybe Bowman can work some of his bum-for-a-first magic and get somebody that we don't need the hell out of here.

The only player that might fetch a first is Stalberg.. but with Frolik having a bad year and Bickell's inconsistent play, he needs to stick around until we see where Morin, Beach, Saad and J.Hayes are heading into next season.
