10 goals in 14 games? Unlikely but he could do it. It would be amazing to have a 40 goal scorer on the team.

Also, Patches is now tied for 3rd in Even Strength Goals, 2 behind Evgeni Malkin.

The crazy thing was when Pacioretty was drafted he was more of a passer and even his first couple of years after being drafted he was still more of a passer than shooter. Ever since playing with Desharnais he's started using his shot a lot more and its paying off big time.

First 30 goal scorer since 07-08.

When was the last 40 goals guy?

Congrats to Max Pac on 30 goals this season! One of the few bright spots this year!

Don't know about 40. But the last player to hit 50 is Stephan Richer.

It has nothing to do with Desharnais. He's been shooting the puck for a long time now.

Actually he played less games than Kessell, so he should be alone at 3rd

I think that between the lack of draft pedigree and DD getting all the credit it will be a while before it's widely realized exactly how good MaxPac is. Kid is still climbing steps.

Lots of people overestimate the amount of talent in the league. 30-goal scorers just aren't that common. In the typical year there's less than one per team. Health is as big a factor as talent though. There's several players every year who end up on pace to hit or beat it, but miss out at the end due to missing time to injury. (Gionta was on pace for 38 goals in 09-10, Cammy for 33).

And that's just guys who hit 30 goals, which your average 20-25 goal man can do in a good year. Guys who can score 30+ goals reliably are rare, and Pacioretty looks like he'll be one. What's impressive is that he's doing it almost entirely at even-strength, which is even rarer (Although it seems to be an artefact of high sh% at evens and low sh% on the PP, so I'd expect him to keep hitting 30 goals but have a higher proportion of them on the PP).

We would've had one in 09-10 if Gionta hadn't gotten injured. But yea, it's pretty sad.

Pacioretty had more assists than goals in his seasons...until the year he started out in Hamilton and got called up later that season, aka last season.

This is true. He had really solid shot rates for his first two seasons in the AHL/NHL for a player his age. The puck just wasn't going in for him which lead to the low goal totals everyone was worried about.

A little work on his shot over the summer and voila he converts at an average rate for a forward and the goals pile in.

Not really. Most guys in his range will have cold streaks like that. Its largely a matter of how goals/point tend to randomly rather than uniformly distributed.

I think he'll be the type of guy to have equal number of goals and assists.

All I know is that I'm happy as hell that he'll be a big part of this team for many years.

Same here!

Could you imagine if he had Markov on the power play all season long feeding him? At least 5 more goals for him, maybe more.

The Canadiens got it right when it came to develop him. Yes he showed good signs in his first call up, but would of probably rotted on a 3rd or 4th line losing his confidence. They expected him to be a top 2 line forward but at the time there was no room, and sending him to the AHL so he can dominate on a top line there, and when there's an opening on the top 2 lines he got called up and fit right in.

The same worked great for Subban. Keeping Latendresse backfired. I hope they do the same for Leblanc. He's showing great skills and probably can hang in the NHL, but we drafted him to be a top liner. Hope he stays in the AHL and dominates in order to build his confidence, and when there's an opening in the top 2 lines bring him up.

I said he's shooting MORE... he had over 5 shots a game last year in the AHL when he was with Desharnais compared to 3 shots a game the year before in his stint in the AHL. When he got called up last year to the NHL he was averaging over 3 shots a game compared to the 1.4 a game in 09/10.

Ever since he started playing with Desharnais last year he's been shooting from anywhere and not passing up as many shots as he did when he first got called up which is why he's becoming more and more effective.

True, but it's also because Desharnais doesn't shoot at all. He always looks to pass the puck away, hence why Pacs has more shots with him. If Pacs was playing with more of a scoring center, he would have less shots but probably way more assists then he does. The thing that I don't like about the DD/Pacs combo is that it will be easy to play against. You know DD isn't going to shoot so sit back or double team Pacs. If you put a center like Plekanec with him, then you can't really strategize in shutting them down, cause the shot could come from anyone.
