That game made me soooo angry. The leafs got a fluke goal in the second. The puck took sort of a poop fly over Huet and fell in the net behind him. And there was a 5-on-3 powerplay for the leafs in the third that killed the game for us.
Oh god I remember that goal so clearly. That goal and the Allison bounce on the glass, rebound in the net goal were the most disgusting experiences I felt as a hockey fan (I started following the Habs very closely around that time). The post lock-out rivalry with the Leafs was great, but those were ALWAYS frustrating games, mostly because of reffing. I think a loss against the Leafs was worse than a playoff loss for me. Mostly because it was unbearable to watch their fans gloat afterwards.
Yeah that was the first time the eventual Cup champs beat the Habs en route to the Finals since 1964 (Toronto). Previously it had been the kiss of death to beat the Habs in a series- unless of course we talk of the SCF themselves when the Leafs beat us in '67 and Flames beat us in '89. And since then, the 2006 Hurricanes and 2011 Bruins have done it too!
