He wouldn't have gotten to that puck even if he had a 10' long stick. That play is all on O'Reilly, with the blind pass back to the point where no one was waiting.

Watching the replay, the pass from Stastny to O'Reilly hits a skate, thus why the puck was heading toward the point.
The only goal on EJ was the second one where it was deflected top shelf. EJ shouldn't have let his guy go, I don't think he saw Jonesy coming back to challenge Staal and it looked like he was going to challenge Staal, but either way he made the wrong decision there.
The Asham goal was all McLeod for not taking Asham and the Park goal was just pure dumb luck, no one to blame but Giggy for not being able to stop breakaways to save his life.

Yea it was kind of weird. The live shot made it look like he made a really lazy effort at the puck, but on the replay from behind Jiggy's net, he really did reach for it about as much as he could. They were pressing, and it was an unfortunate bounce.
Hey guys. Honest question here from someone who doesnt get to see EJ play very much. Not trying to stir hornets up.
Has his play changed since his first couple of years in the league or is he being asked to play different style or role? I ask because his numbers (for what they are worth) seem to be regressing. Perhaps it is all false and his on ice play is much better, I don't know. Just wondering where that ~40pt - 80PIM guy went from his 2nd season? I honestly thought back then he was going to be a perennial 12-15 goal guy with 50+ pts.
Not implying that he is playing poorly now, just wondering where the numbers went.
In the beginning of the year he tried to do too much and kept forcing the play in terms of either shot or pass. Lately he has simplified his game and has become a complete beast. Last month he had a 3 game goal streak and even though lately he hasn't put up numbers, defensively is where he progressed. His smarts with the puck, positioning, and physical present in our zone has been a HUGE improvement since last season.
And to be honest I was more worried about his defensive game than his offensive game. His numbers will come, with better forwards and getting his shot through. Right now we suspect that he's playing injured.

He's played a more defensive style. He actually had six points the first nine games of the season, but his overall game was significantly worse.
EJ has been amazing the last few months. He is playing like a #1 should. Defensively he has been great, and he has become a very physical player down low. The offense has come and gone this year. Partly, I think that is due to the role on the team and the developement path the staff has put out for him. Also, the Avs just aren't scoring as much as they have in the past (lowest goals per game since 08-09), and the lack of powerplay chances this team gets cuts down on PP time. I think he will develop into a 10-15 goal 40pt player in a few years, but in the meantime he will be a 5-10 goal 30-35 pt player.
The lack of PP's hurt EJ offensively. He doesnt take too many risks 5 on 5.
I'm glad EJ is doing a lot better now than he used to. I still watch from afar to see how his development is going. I still can't believe what we got out of the trade with Shattenkirk. That kid has been a beast on both sides of the game and is a nice complement to Pietrangelo.

And I don't think anyone foresaw how poor Stewart would be playing. That is still a shocker to me.
Yeah, he was playing like an ******* after coming back. I particularly liked him playing "wack a mole" on Tootoo's hands.
Tootoo's reaction reminded me of that Kovalev play in the playoffs when a bruin whacked him. That was a nice chop by Johnson and the best part he got awya with it.
