I don't see how calling up a small puck moving defenseman that hasn't played in the nhl is better than Babs?
Babchuk for sure is the safer bet, but the same could of been said about Smith and Wilson. I think given our injury situation, that now would be a good time to see what Connelly can do in the NHL. If Babchuk was more sound defensively, given our situation we are in with regards to the playoffs, I would say your thinking is not only right but its a no brainer. But he is average in his own end and he's speed is not great, I would like to see how Connelly can handle himself for at least 2 games.
The Hawks have had one of the best defensive cores in the NHL over the last 3 seasons. I think if Connelly was on 85% of the other teams in the NHL, that he would of already had some NHL experience.

Our pp is dreadful I want Babs in and him to take Gio's spot on the top pp unit with his shot could be a huge boost. Then Gio and Jbow on the second pp makes it much better. We have a pp specialist on the team lets ****ing use him.

Yes, we've sorely missed boom booms shot from the point, he was money on the PP past year.

He wasn't even that bad defensively last year (although he had sheltered minutes) I would rather an offensive weapon given how bad we have been over Sarich.
Also he was the last player to score shorthanded coincidence I think not.

Connelly has 39 points in 49 games this season in the AHL, and also plays on the PP. I would definitley use him on our 2nd PP unit if he was called up. But I agree, Babchuk's shot is definitely being missed on the PP. The guy is just in Sutter's dog house. I woudn't be opposed to see Connelly being called up and having the 2 of them rotated into the lineup over a period of 4 games.

I understand we want to see what Connelly has but I don't think he is better than Gio Jbow or Babs for a pp weapon so I think while we are in a fight for the playoffs you go with what you know and then if we fall out of it give Connelly a shot or wait till preseason and give him a try like smith this year.

Again, I'm not suggesting we call him up and insert him in a top 4 role or anything. But I think we should give him a look and see what he's got in a sheltered role. Brodie, Smith, and Wilson have done extremely well in the same situation and I would like to see how Connelly responds. And he is not a typical rookie either, he has experience in playing with one of the best defensive systems in the NHL.
I do agree with you though, I think Babchuk should be given some games. I just think Connelly should get an opportunity that others have gotten this year before Smith comes back.

I think we have said the same thing like 3 times . With out butler we can't shelter all 3 of Brodie,Smith,Babs/Connelly I think Babs is far more likely to succeed if we ask him to play a larger role than if we ask Smith or Brodie to cover for Connelly. If we fall out of the picture then I agree bring up Connelly and see what he has.
I think Babchuck will make the most of his time on the ice. I think Connelly would as well, but during these two key games before the deadline, we need to showcase our more moveable assets at this point.
Close (within the next week) - Comeau, Butler, Bouma
Further out: Stempniak, Jones, Backlund
Unknown: Jackman, Cammalleri
I wouldn't be surprised if Jackman and Cammalleri are concussed.
I wish Steinburg would've said that Stempniak, Butler, and Cammy were close, Jones, Butler and comeau were further out, while Jackman and Bouma were unknown.
