Damn Crapitals win another game in OT. Three of their last 5 games have gone to OT and they've won 2/3...all those OT games against non-playoff teams (Isles, Carolina, TB tonight). The last time they beat a team in a playoff position was 11 games ago on Feb 17 when they pounded the mighty Panthers by a score of 2-1. A record of 3-7-1 vs. playoff teams over their last 20 (7 of a possible 22 points = .318)
Jets have faced 10 playoff teams in their last 20 games and have a record of 4-4-2 (10 of a possible 20 points = .500, including tonight's loss in Vancouver).
Washington has 15 games remaining: 6 home, 9 away; 9 vs playoff teams; 7 of 9 are away games vs playoff teams.
Winnipeg has 14 games remaining: 6 home, 8 away; 8 vs playoff teams; 4 of 8 are away games vs playoff teams.
That's including the Jets as a playoff team in Washington's schedule and vice versa.

GmOney - good analysis of the remaining games. Their playoff hopes aren't QUITE in their hands yet, but it's very close. The games against the Caps, TB, and Florida are HUGE - discounting last nights loss, I still feel very positive about them getting in this year.
I don't know, I'm not sure Florida can stay in the race much longer.
While they had a great first 2/3 of the season, they haven't been that impressive since the all-star game. Not only do they have a losing record, but in almost every one of their wins, they over came a 2-0 deficit. They can't keep beating the odds forever.
I feel like they're this year's version of the '11 Thrashers. With Winnipeg and now Washington playing better (as well as Buffalo and TB - although they're both starting to fade now), I don't know if they can keep it up.
Interesting projection - if you consider play over the last 10 (and ignore that many of those games for the Jets were at home ), here's the projected finishing spots for teams in the Eastern Conference:

So, all the Jets have to do is hit the same pace on the road as they do at home!
It's going to be a very exciting race - I believe it will go down to the last week for that 8th spot, and possibly the 3rd spot (1st in SE).

Florida has 16 games remaining. 8 home 8 away: 6 vs. playoff teams 10 vs. non playoff teams
Florida's schedule and it is pretty attractive they close out this month with a 6 game stretch where they play the Canes, Oilers, Isles, Habs, Wild, and Jackets nothing like playing a prolonged stretch against the lottery teams to get you back on track . The scariest part of the schedule though is 9 of games remaining are against bottom 6 NHL teams that are not in playoff races but more accurately in the fail for Nail race. The only saving grace is 3 of those 9 are against the Canes who are a bit hotter lately but still
they will really need to fall apart to miss the playoffs.

While I don't disagree, lottery teams tend to play much much better in the later parts of the season once they are eliminated from playoffs since all the pressure is off. Look at TOR the last like 5 years always, way out of it till a late season run. Or look at Columbus right now, playing BY FAR their best hockey of the year. Teams with no pressure and nothing to lose can still be very dangerous.

good point Holden and thanks for throwing me a bone.........on first glance it was a tad depressing to view
well crap, we could be 6 points behind WAS on Wed. They play in BOS, and home to TOR and NYI. FLA plays TOR and CAR. Couldn't really get any easier for those 2 teams. This race for 8th looks like it will be settled in the last game of the season at home vs TB. Every team plays on April 7th, WAS @ NYR, BUF @ BOS, and CAR @ FLA. If it comes down to us and WAS I like our chances as the Caps are just as bad as us on the road.
OK. So it looks like before the Jets play on Wed, the teams that we're fighting over 3rd spot or 8th spot with will have either 69 GP (For FLA and TB on Tues, WSH on Sun, or 70 GP (For BUF before Wed)
That's alot of scoreboard watching for us fans and the Jets players to do.... And worst of all, the Leafs are playing @WSH on Sun, @FLA on Tues....

Season's over. If we didn't suck so badly against terrible teams (Columbus, Montreal, NY Islanders, Edmonton, Calgary...), we'd have made it. I just can't see us coming back and knocking out Florida or Washington after these past two losses.
I think I'll just pull for St Louis in the playoffs. Anyone but Vancouver.
