The Toronto Star archives are subscription only. You may be able to get access to the online archives through a library account, either a school library or a public library. That's what I have done in the past.
The search function misses a lot with Google News or the Star. You can find more by browsing specific papers on the day after big games.
- Why if Cook and Duncan's name showed up, but Skinner's one doesn't? Is that far much difficult to recognize? I'll probably write down Cook or Duncan' name in google archives and search for years they've played together ...
- Thank for the information. I love the ATD and everything, but I don't see myself going to my public livrary and doing some research!
An update the size of what needs to be done now would take me 10-15 minutes.
I just fail to see why it's not updated regularly, we wouldn't have this problem if it was updated by the person who created the thread every opportunity given, instead it's stockpiling and creating a hassle for a lot of managers.

If you feel so strongly about it, why didn't you create this thread? The last one was hovering around 1000 posts for a long time, IIRC.
Unless you have a really poor starting goalie, your back-up is a huge drop-off. The teams are all pretty close, so a disadvantage like that is nearly impossible to overcome.
A good back-up will allow teams to keep their started fresher for the play-offs, but I wouldn't count on them seeing any action while expecting to win in a series.
Again didn't Vernon do this when Detroit won the cup in 96-97, also Niemi stepped in for Huet when Chicago won the cup. Your arguement is flawed. There are already real life examples showing us that if need be the back up can step in and take his team to the finals.
Off the top of my head there was Leighton back in 09-10 for the Flyers as well.
From your rationale a back up goalie has as much value as a spare defenseman... Is that the case?

I'd gladly do it, I post a lot from my phone when I'm in class or at work, but I'd definitely be able to keep up with it. I'm not usually around when the thread is closed.
The last ATD (I believe it was the last ATD), I made a few of the draft threads, and let me tell you.. if you keep up with updating it, it's laughably easy. If you don't, and nobody has created a list that you can just copy and paste into the draft thread, then it becomes exponentially harder. As far as I'm concerned, it is EVERYONE'S responsibility to help maintain the OP, because EVERYONE relies on it in order to keep track of what's going on.. if that is you, then what, exactly, excludes you from the responsibility of helping keep it up to date?
Honestly, it would be NOTHING for someone to do this after every pick:
Quote:
1. Bring Back Scuderi - Pittsburgh Keystones - Bobby Orr, D
2. arrbez - Inglewood Jacks - Wayne Gretzky, C
3. Billyshoe1721 - Philadelphia Flyers - Gordie Howe, RW
4. MadArcand - Hartford Whalers - Mario Lemieux, C <-- let's pretend this is the last pick that was made and updated to the OP
5. vecens24 - Hamilton Mustangs - Doug Harvey, D
6. papershoes - Kenora Thistles - Jean Beliveau, C
7. Hedberg & vancityluongo - Winnipeg Saints - Eddie Shore, D <-- we are up to this point and LF is up
So, LF would post something like this:
Quote:
With the 8th pick, we'll select Raymond Bourque, D.
5. vecens24 - Hamilton Mustangs - Doug Harvey, D
6. papershoes - Kenora Thistles - Jean Beliveau, C
7. Hedberg & vancityluongo - Winnipeg Saints - Eddie Shore, D
8. Leafs Forever - Toronto St. Pats - Raymond Bourque, D
9. Leaf Lander - Toronto Maple Leafs - on the clock until xxxxxx
Honestly.. this would add literally 1-2 minutes to posting your pick, and it would give whoever is updating the OP something they can just copy and paste into it.
In this format, everyone would simply copy and paste the previous person's little list there (or make a new one if the OP was updated since), put their own pick in and put at what time the next person's pick expires. It is so easy to do, and removes the hassle completely out of keeping track of what's going on.. and generally, just makes everyones' lives easier.
There are 30+ participants in the draft, why is it that only 1-2 people shoulder most of the burden for keeping things organized and up to date?
With pick #639 Inglewood selects a hardworking defensive LW/C with excellent hockey smarts and endurance. A two-time Stanley Cup winner, Murdoch was 2nd in playoff scoring on his 1933 Cup run, and led the playoffs in assists.
Toronto Sun - Vancouver Sun etc ... could someone link me up to sites where I could research those journals? I only have Google News and The Globe and Mail!
Have you ever traded in the ATD? I don't remember you doing so.
Me and #ff traded so i could move to 1st overall in i think draft 3 or 4
Inglewood selects one of the most frighteningly physical players of his era:
Bill Ezinicki (RW)
Ezinicki was an important member of the Leafs dynasty in the 1940's, playing on the top line with Syl Apps and Harry Watson. He was a solid offensive contributor, but is best remembered for his devastating physical play and willingness to take on all comers. He actually knocked Edgar Laprade unconscious with a check, prompting a league investigation (the hit was found to be clean).
In short, he's a total beauty and a great 4th liner, especially beside Nicholls who was a pretty infuriating guy to play against when he had a fighter backing him up.
I don't know how physical Perry is to be honest with you, more of a pure goal scorer that likes to agitate from time to time and can fight other middle weights when needed.
.
I agree.

You are absolutely right there.

Duncan came up because he was the star and Cook because he was the player/coach. Skinner, as a support player would often be referred to as "Skinner" no Alf, so the search wouldn't catch it. "Skinner Vancouver" might have more success.
