They did play well there.. They did not get a lot of ice time but when they did they often played with MacKinnon...I am sure that was fun for them..exciting to say the least
Can anyone provide some info to the potential 1st rounds picks from the Maritimes?
I've seen some names early in the season drop off discussions recently...thx
NS
Mason MacDonald - goal
Matt Highmore - forward
Nick Quillan - Defence
NB
Antoine Landry - goal
Spencer Smallman - forward
??Olivier Arsenault?? - defense. D very weak in NB at 96 level.
Most of these player wont go in the first round. They are some of the top guys in the maritimes however.. your missing Duncan MacIntyre, Zack Moody, Brendan Nickerson, Morgan Messanger, Nic Blanchard, Nick Gibson.... (all on scoutman1's list) Everyone keeps discussing player from the maritimes, it would be nice too see a top 10 or 15 maritime players list or something so the confusion will be lesser

Thanks for the input; I've heard Highmore had some injury problems this year and Nickerson had a tough year against the better teams. I'm hearing MacIntyre and Gibson have been having good years as well.
Does anyone know how Deschenes (D) from Fredericton has played?

I just have a hard time believing that Nickerson is a first rounder. I just can't wrap my mind around that one.

I agree Nickerson won't be a first rounder. So many people talk about size and I agree it is somewhat important but and the end of the day it is compete level that I care about, the puck doesn't care how big anyone is
Deschene is a 97 and is doing well considering he is an underage. IMO he need another year of Midget which is probably the only choice he has.

Deschenes plays with a very inexperienced group of D men in Fredericton. He's no doubt their best guy. Hard to remember that he is still bantam age! I think he should have been considered for 2nd team All-star. No doubt he will be number 1 or 2 in the 2013 Q Draft unless there's another 97 out there that I don't know about.

I'm hearing the best '97 out of NS is a kid named Parsons...big, strong and has scored a lot in Major Bantam
So safe to say he's stagnated ? And no longer a good prospect.
It's funny cause he thought espoir was ****, it would have been best for him.
I know this cause I played hockey with one of his friends.
I wonder if he returns to the Lions next year.
IMO Espoir is a **** league. It has been diluted over the years. Associations are focused on making money and lost sight of the development side. Most teams have 3 or 4 players that can play. The rest are fillers.
Midget AAA should eliminate the 17yo's and let the 15 yo's, who deserve to be in AAA, develop. Does any other province in Canada have a program like Espoir?...no How many Espoir players have been called up and made a significant impact on the AAA team? I can think of Seb Lemieux who has done really well with CEB but not many more. Has the Espoir helped develop players toward Hockey Canada's program of excellence?....maybe but the better players are already in AAA. There are a few exceptions that stay in Espoir because they don't want to change schools.
LSL espoir worked really well for Alexandros Soumakis.
I believe there are a few others on this years lions team that made it after playing espoir.
I will say that it's watered down due to the kids who tank at Tryouts.
Soumakis didn't make AAA his first year due to a back injury. He is an exception to the rule. I am glad he is doing well in the Q. Good for him.
However, the Espoir graduates that are playing on the Lions this year are getting very few minutes. Klitorinos played well throughout the season but was bumped down in the playoffs. Nantais, Milner, Palmitano didn't see more that 5 or 6 minutes per game.

That's because Goyens is an idiot.
The Lions made some poor team choices ( I'm talking to you Sukamaran) and it cost them.
Nick Q told me "hip really hurts shouldnt play but I will" he will return soon Im guessing.... (Old text I got from him I was busy so I guess I'll post it now)

I don't quite understand where your getting your information from considering he played the last two games. although, it did look like he was skating with a brick on his leg last night.

Espoir ain't so bad.
I am not so sure that selecting other players that were available would have changed their strategy of playing 2 lines. They did it last last season with their power house team and they do it again next year.
Espoir ain't bad....but it ain't great either. We'll see how many LSL Espoir kids move on next season. Other than the Royals who have a great D core and top 6, I am pretty sure the ratio moving on will be low.
Players should always want to push themselves and play where it is easier for them.

Im friends with him but that was an old text I got from him a few days ago I was busy for a few days and I forgot to post it here (I suppose I should have mentioned that in the post)

Hes still a good prospect...it just would have been nice to see him play more...I dont think hes a top 30 prospect because a lot of other kids in his age bracket have played a lot and developed and passed him...I still think Matt can put this season behind him and move forward and get his development back on track...
I think any 15 year old would be absolutely stupid to want to play for the Lions...

He looked slower than normal so that would explain it...still played well though, better in the Sunday game.
