Its the first time anybody has scored 5 times in the champions league era, it happend before in the european cup era but never at such a late stage in the competition.
How many of his goals have come in blow out games (yes, that eternal hockey stat complaint)?
I would hope its a blowout if you score 5 goals.
I should make more of a point to watch more barcelona games. We might not witness a player of this calibur in our lifetime again so we might as well savor it.
most prestigious and even important, shure but the champions league is probably football of a higher level
No, I disagree with that. Heck, OM and OL have played putrid football and made it to the knockout stage. Zenith, Benfica, APOEL, etc...
Let's be serious, that's not WC level.

come on, lots of teams at the wc suck, most asian teams for example
the level of football at the last world cup in south africa was awfull (germany in 2006 was rather good though)

Apparently, you missed the Zagreb (0-6, 22 goals against), Galati (0-6), Genk (3 pts, 16 goals against), Borisov (2 pts, 14 goals against) or even the mighty APOEL through to the quarter finals, whiwh says a lot about the quality of the team they faced to get there.
There are weak teams in WC and there are weak teams in CL. But the higher level of players is in the WC.
They didn't try or they couldn't get the ball? I suppose if they'd kicked us off the park like other teams that "try" it would have been better.
Meaning they had already given up on the kick off. But I guess that's the "glory/wonder" of the UCL. One season a big team can look a like a 2nd division team while a "minnow" can look like European superpower. Sometimes they can "change appearance" during the campaign (Milan and ARSEnal).

So that's why they scored an excellent goal in the dying minutes.
Look, they hung their heads at some point in the second half, but they weren't just lying down the whole match. Not to mention this is the same team that beat Bayern just days before. And what I really find funny about all this is people ignoring the absolute quality of basically four of Messi's goals. How many other players do you honestly believe score those goals? (I'm not asking you personally).

how many goals did he score in the world cup?
hey, i'm not saying messi isn't awesome, he is awesome as is his team, but leverkusen could at least have tried to give a little more pressure on the ball holder when you know he's got a deadly shot and he's only a few feet outside your penalty area? i don't know, try to give the guy a little push or something
back then players sometimes played awfully physical on pele and maradona, you never see that today
also it didn't help leverkusen already lost 1-3 at home
