I missed the Leafs game on Wednesday against Pitt. How did Ashton do? I read the stat line which made him seem irrelevant.

Exactly. His first NHL game and didn't really hurt the team.

Ashton looked like Colborne his first NHL game, completely overwhelmed by the pace

Which is fine, I wonder if they'll send him back down...

The Marlies will be in action tonight (7:30) and tomorrow vs. the Hamilton Bull Dogs.

Should be a physical game between these two rivals. Marlies will look to get their offense back on track after a few lousy games. Believe they are riding a 3 game losing streak right now.

---

The Reading Roylas (ECHL) are also in action this weekend. They too need to get back on the winning track as they hunt for a playoff spot. They play two teams who are at the bottom of their respective divisions.

Just another update from Reading. They added a few players over the last week:

Chris Doyle (21-years-old), Ian O'Connor (24-years-old), and Colten Hayes (21-years-old) were added through trade. The Royals gave up defenseman Rob Kwiet in the deal. The Royals also acquired some Kelly Cup experience by adding Ethan Cox (and future considerations) and trading captain Ryan Cruthers. Cruthers was one of Reading's top producers.

A deal was rescinded that was going to send Drew Paris to the Royals for forward Dennis McCauley. The Royals then signed defenseman William Lacasse to a PTO.

The Royals got back Karel St. Laurent who will play back-up to Owuya I'm guessing. Owuya played 3 games in 3 nights last weekend while St. Laurent was in the AHL.

Karel St. Laurent is very solid.

Last night in the OHL:

Levio was a -1 in a 7-0 loss
Percy was pointless and picked up 2 PIMS
Sam Carrick got a goal and an assist and 2 PIMS
David Broll did not play for SSM.
Sparks stopped 43 of 47 shots in a 4-1 loss to London. McKegg picked up an assist.

Broll didn't play yesterday because of the flu.

Thats why Im asking. Owuya has outperformed Rynnas, and has better stats than scrivens. I dont see why they would send him down and make him ineligible for the calder cup unless they wanted both goalies to start. If the royals dont make it, and scrivens gets hurt, then what? I just dont see the rationale unless they make it.

I cant even tell which teams make it in ECHL. I mean there are 8 teams in 1 conference and 12 in the other.... WTF is that? who makes it?

Leafs see prospects' AHL experience as invaluable

www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=621322

Quote:
"We want our players to experience AHL playoff success. We think that augers well for them in the future," Burke said. "I've told people this before, the miracle in Anaheim (in 2007) wasn't just that we won a Cup, we played in 14 playoff rounds in three years between the two teams. The big club played in eight and the American League team, the Portland Pirates, played in six. These were vital stepping stones for that franchise."

I can't stand that Marlies games are so rarely televised. The team only have average attendance? Why not expose the teams to fans?! On a night like tonight with no Leaf game, and no NHL games broadcast on TSN/TSN2, I would have easily watched the Marlies game.

I agree. Even if Leafs TV put it on. Instead they just waste their time with crappy re runs of the same stuff. They should be playing Marlies game when there's no Leafs game on.

Maybe as the fan base grows more games will be televised as they can attract more advertising.

On the positive side based on memory when the Marlies were in the playoffs last time all the games were on Leafs TV.

Going to tonights game againts the Bulldogs. Pretty excited to see Holzer actually. Haven't really paid much attention to him in previous games, however with the fact he made Aulie expendable I will be watching. Also I have seen Kadri has been playing Center again. Don't really understand the logic as he will only be wing with the Leafs.

4-2 Marlies
