See, Callahan tipped the 3rd goal. Not sure why everyone is blaming Hank for that.

That's not a serious question. Are we really questing the leadership of Ryan freakin' Callahan right now?

And being a vocal leader is about as useless as an ash tray on a motorcycle... you'd get tuned out after 2 or three rants. Ryan Callahan does all of his leading on the ice.

The Rangers lost this game because they didn't have the confidence to finish it, plan and simple. They had it and GAVE it away. It's kind of sad right now how fragile this team is and this is exactly why I'm skeptical that they do much of anything in the playoffs. I mean... you control that game for a majority of the time, can't finish prime chances, and let in a super soft goal to close it out? Gross.

Boyle stinks. Plain 'n simple. He annoys me EVERY single game.

Guy blows a tire at worst possible time. Never wins a crucial face-off when we need it. Can't skate, unable accept a pass nor make one. I like Torts, but he needs to take the blinders off when it comes to Boyle. Big deal, Boyle can keep the puck along the boards below the hash-marks for an extended period time, which NEVER turns into a threat offensively. That's basically all he does.

Agreed, we lack the bomb from the point to mask some of the problems on the PP.

Does Callahan not know any better than to try and block a point shot with his stick? When does that ever work? Either use your body, or let it go.

I think calling up Erixon is a fair point right now.

I didn't see where Callahan tipped it and it looked like it beat him clean on the replay they showed on NHL network.

Soending too much time trying to score. What we need is more 'jam'. Call up Newbury and Deveaux.

Lundqvist just said "it hit our guy and it went up."

You use whatever means possible to slow or direct that puck away from the goalie. It was just a bad bounce. The effort was there. Not the fortunate result.

Yeah, the goal wasn't tipped. Hank just gave up a softie at the worst possible time. The reality we were not gaining enough offensive pressure. We spent most of the game conceding the puck. Well, that is what happens.

Think about it... Hossa, Sharp, Kane, Teowvs (even though he wasn't playing), those are some damn good offensively intelligent players.

I hope our clear lack of raw talent doesn't bite us in the ass. I didn't want to trade for Nash but maybe it would've been a good idea after all?
The sad truth is Nash wouldn't have even been enough. Most of this team is just not that talented. Adding Nash would have helped, but that doesn't help the lack of scoring from up and down all over the line up.

These are our talented offensive players:

Gaborik
Richards
MDZ
Stepan
Anisimov (sort of)

EVERYONE ELSE IS A GRINDER.

Probably should be less 'jam' and more 'preserves'. Preserves have those gritty seeds in them. : )

Totally true, Nash doesn't really help with the basic fundamental problem that this team is built around players like Boyle, Prust, Callahans, and Dubinsky's. We don't play a system that works well with offensively creative players.

The system is fine if you have pools of energy, and you can outmuscle your opponent. But it doesn't work that great when your tank is empty and other teams are surging.

When Brian Boyle is your 3rd line center and face off specialist and Fedotenko is on your 3rd line, you are not winning conferences or cups. Mitchell is better than him and should be ahead of him.

True. Sure he has a FO% above 50, but I haven't seen him win an importance defense zone face-off. (See: Nash goal)
He's not Selke caliber. He'd be closer to it if he used his size, but he doesn't. And as you said, he can keep the puck below the hashmarks, but so can 3/4 of our other forwards.

Pittsburgh has to win three games and we have to lose three games in regulation for them to pass us because we own the tiebreak.

Philly and the Devils and the Bruins arent catching us.

They had three tough road games against three teams who are still in danger of getting caught from the bottom. They need those points.

Rangers will be fine. Stick to the game plan that's worked all season. Torts needs to manage 3rd periods better. He couldnt match lines because of the road games, and his guys are too slow to change on the fly.

The homestand is coming at the perfect time.
