"gutsy win" - smith
Can't agree more. Can't wait for those next two sharks games, which could really seal our fate for the playoffs. 4th line was fast and deadly. Also they didn't look like they were missing Hanzel too much.
^ Sounds like an impending coaching and/or management change to me. I'm not saying it's warranted, but it has to be a huge disappointment for the Sharks to be on the bubble at this point in the season. Obviously the Pacific is tight enough that any of the Shark, Stars and Coyotes could pull away with it, but likely that only 2 of those three teams will make the playoffs. The closer the competition like that usually results in fewer teams making the playoffs from what I recall.

They still are two games back. A lot can happen. On that note, 1st period Smith kept the Yotes in the game. Without his play this could have been another 2-0 going into the second. The next two periods proved how hard it is to beat the Yotes without a lead in the first.
Welcome aboard!! We landed someone from the Sharks!!

I'd add that Vrbata is having a career season, and as far as I'm concerned we've got the best coach / gm tandem in the league.

I love Tippett. He's absolutely amazing, and everyone knows that, but Maloney doesn't get nearing enough love around here.
You're telling me, the Sharks just got shut out. (Although, in fairness, we were rolling one scoring line).
In all seriousness though, this team works well when they play hard for a full 60. Sure, could be said for any team, but it really is the only way we can win. We aren't an offensive team at all, so we have to play sound defensive hockey. I believe we are one of the lowest teams as far as PIM is concerned. We are a very disciplined team.
There are plenty of times where someone doesn't cover their man, and it leads to goals. It's mental errors that kill our team more so than anything. If we keep the mental errors to a minimum, you see a team like you saw in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Work hard for the puck, plain and simple.

You guys average the least penalty minutes in the league.
And seriously, what's the scoop with Smith? How in the hell has he been so good? Product of the system or does he have talent that no one else noticed?

Don't forget that Yandle needs to be traded because he's had some tough games after looking like a franchise player for two years

Smith has earned what he has gotten so far this season. He has bailed us out many times, and there have been times where the team has bailed him out. The system helps, I mean we had 27 blocked shots tonight. The guys in front of Smith are willing to put their bodies on the line to block the puck. But all in all, Smith has earned his stats for the most part. The team does a good job of clearing the rebounds though. There is always a guy normally not allowing someone to put back a rebound in front of the net. Of course there are breakdowns every now and then, but they do a very good job in front of Smith when he makes the initial save.

Doan -heart and soul
Vermette -solid second or third line center who can won faceoffs
Korpikoski -depth player with a lot of words who has trouble finishing.
Vrbata-goal scorer and solid two way player
Hanzal-shutdown center. One of the most important players
Whitney- great playmaker. Huge for our offense and vrbatas game.
Boedker-young player with all the tools who hasnt put it all together yet. Jury is still out on whether he ever will.
Gordon-great defensive forward and shot blocker.
pyatt- big body with some offensive talent. Unfortunately he's usually invisible.
Torres-great energy player who stirs things up and chips in on the scoreboard.
Langkow-solid veteran who doesn't make many mistakes or score much.
Brule-has had a big impact on our fourth line. Looks good in both ends.
Chipchura-another gritty player who fits DTs system and has been a nice surprise.
Biz-knows his role. He usually has a positive impact in the games he plays in. Maybe too nice to make other teams think twice about playing dirty though
