Eller , 2012's 1st and 2012's 2nd for << Yakupov???.. the habs management would be like... where do we sign ??? You're talking of Superstar in the making here. Unfortunately throwing Eller in there wouldn't be enough for the team that's holding the 1st overall pick.
I wouldn't do it either...
Eller has quality top-6 written all over him, and perhaps even an outside chance at being a 70+pt player once he fully matures.
add in a pick that could very well turn out as good, or better, than Yakupov (Grigorenko, Galeynychuk, Dumba, Murray), & a 2nd...
Yakupov (tonights injury aside) doesn't strike me as being so dominant or such a "sure thing" that we are talking about a Crosby/Ovechkin/Malkin type "sure thing".
think about it from last year's perspective... I'd say Yakupov is not unlike RNH was last year in the sense that he was pretty much the consensus #1, but not the "generational talent" type prospect...
would you trade Eller, Landeskog/Larsson/Huberdeau & Musil/Rattie/Jurco for RNH? As good as RNH is, I'd say no.
Hardly a "dirty elbow" - Yakupov was practically bent over when he was cutting across the ice. No surprise his face was at Halmo's elbow.
The criticism of Ovechkin in his draft year was that his reckless play would eventually lead to injury...but unlike Yakupov, Ovechkin at least has the frame to absorb that kind of punishment.
Either way, I wouldn't let it turn me off from picking him 1st overall (unless it comes out that his brain is scrambled for life or something, god forbid).
Yea he was in a tough position and he lowered his head. I don't know if Halmo was running around like that all game, but from this angle it looks incidental. Sucks though because the impact looks devastating.
