Portland pushes net over with 4 seconds left to win

I don't understand what happened tonight. The Silvertips, down by 1 with 4 seconds left, end up with the puck in the slot and a wide open net, Petryk takes the shot, and right as it's crossing the goalline Carruth dives onto the net, knocking it over, and the referees award us a penalty shot instead of the obvious goal. Is that really how the ruling works? Talking to the off ice judge afterwards, he said simply "he fell on the net", but it was very clearly intentional. Then, at the next whistle, he was taking pot shots at our man in front of the net, in the head. How is this possible? Some of Portland's players have class, like Rattie and Morrow, but they have some players who play so dirty, and they get away with it, like Ross and Carruth.

Just watched video, and it looks like Mac and Wrenn almost run into each other and Mac was trying to avoid a collision with a teammate. Although, since a PS was awarded, the officials (who probably have better replays than me) must have thought he did it intentionally but determined the shot wouldn't have been a goal. Interestingly enough, if it had happened with over 2 minutes left, it would have been a PP for Everett. PS is only awarded when the full 2 minutes wouldn't be able to be served.

Best of luck to your team in the playoffs.

And I like how no one the Tips plays dirty according to you. You may want to buck up on the types of players hockey teams use to construct their teams.

We have tough guys, like Caron and Grayson, and guys who hit hard, but noone with quite the arrogance to be pests like Portland has. And, I can assume that, because Ferner was saying we should have been awarded a goal, that it was at least in the realm of possibility to award a goal, and wasn't awarded because "the puck was going wide", which is possible. But, the aftermath, following the PS, with Carruth literally punching the screen, Yadlowski, in the head, for the entire last 4 seconds, put an even worse taste in my mouth, along with the little brawl at the end.

Portland and Victoria are the two dirtiest teams in the league.

With the goaltender in the net, it is always a penalty shot, no matter the time remaining, nor the intentions of the player who dislodges the net from its moorings.

Rule 10.1 (E)

Interesting. Although, the goaltender was not in net, he was behind the net, and was the one who knocked the net over, from behind.

He'd have to have been sitting on the bench in order for it to be an awarded goal.

Makes sense. But it's pretty sucky, it was almost a guaranteed goal, and even if Carruth is telling the truth when he said he knocked it over on accident, it was still taking away a goal to give a team that lost 8 games in the SO, a penalty shot.
