All things being equal, I'm still not sure I take Parise over Nash (again all things being equal, and trade versus free agent signing being taken out of equation.

Put the same on the same team, same support system, I think Nash is the better player on most teams/in most systems.

With that said, I will agree that I think Parise would fit the Rangers a bit better.

I know it may not be a popular opinion but I agree with this 100%.

Very interesting. You're the first person I've heard who's expressed that sentiment. For me, I'd take Parise 100 times out of 100, which is partially why I was so adamantly against trading for Nash.

Even if we disagree on which player we think is better, we definitely agree that Parise would fit the Rangers hand in glove. To me he is everything that the Rangers' identity is all about.

Some fallout

Quote:
The talk is the Rangers aren’t pleased with the way Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson handled negotiations in a failed deal involving W Rick Nash. Sources say GM Glen Sather felt he made a generous offer — including C Brandon Dubinsky, D Tim Erixon and prospect C J.T. Miller, along with two first-round picks — but Howson wouldn’t stop asking for D Michael Del Zotto, among others. Some would be surprised if the Rangers even revisit a deal for Nash in the off-season

Patrick and Sather Redux. They couldn't find a fit for Jagr in 2001. Same thing here in 2012.

Howson is the GM but Patrick is heavily involved. I read another article(Columbus Post Dispatch I think) where he was telling Howson to be patient and not make a bad deal.

If both Nash and Parise put up around the same point totals wouldn't the bigge stronger player be a better fit ?
That being said ZP who I have seen more of plays a hard game for a small guy . I'd still lean towards the big player

I don't respect Bruce Garrioch's work, to be honest.

I'd revisit Nash and Yakupov combined at the Draft and I'm not sure MDZ would stop me from making a deal for both.

Nash
1st Overall

Dubinsky
MDZ
Miller
Thomas/St Croix/MZA
Wrath

1st 2012
1st 2013

If thats not getting it done I'd consider adding Sauer and or Arty and removing Thomas/MZA/St Croix and Wrath.

That would be 4 roster players for 2. Erixon could replace MDZ, and even if it wasn't immediately getting Yakupov would make up for it in the long run. Yakupov and Nash also replace Arty and Dubi on the roster. Sauer is the only hole left, but it's a hole they've had all season anyway.

I don't think Howson bites because the Rangers first will be too late. If the Rangers are a first round exit however, I think they are in a good position to make a solid offer for Nash and that 1st overall.

Think Taylor Hall but with a physical aspect to his game.

To get that package oh boy it's a nice dream but isn't yakupov a center? So if that deal happens figure Stepan part of the package..

If Sather would somehow be able to get Yakupov, you'd assume Cally gets moved to LW. We don't need Nash and Nail. Honestly, I'd take Nail over Nash. Have no idea what it would take to get him, but it's fun to think about an 18 year old franchise player on this team.

It would take McDonagh+Stepan+ to get Nash AND the 1st.

Kreider and 1st would have to go in too, I imagine. Not worth it.

I would love to have the second over all because I'm fine with Grigorenko, but for the price you're going to have to pay you're better off just trading for an expensive star who at the very least isn't an unknown. I would go for a top two pick at a reasonable price though, it's unlikely that that's the situation however.

Girardi + Dubisnky + 2012 1st + 2012 5th (oh.. wait )

Columbus won't deal the 1st or 2nd overall if they get it. It makes no sense to do so, if the offer is anything short of a massive overpayment.

That being said, Rangers WILL land either Nash or Parise, and I'm starting to think it will be Nash.

Ok, if anything new of substance is reported, we'll open this back up...but for now, it's old news.
