Cap expected to go up next year

CBC Hot Stove mentioned that the cap could go up next year by as much as 8 mil (72 mil)

If the cap does go up next year, what should the Blackhawks do? What type of players should they pursue?

Personally I'd like to see them take this chance to work on the forward depth. Just little tweaks on the D assuming Oduya re-signs, get a good and proven backup who might just takeover the #1 job and this team is set (imo).

If it goes up by 8 mil I'd like to see them go hard after Suter.

Eight million? The hell? Hossa will be making third line center money inside of two years.

That's a lot. Why is it going up so much?

I consider that report dubious at best. $8M? Seems like far too big of a jump.

Holy ****! 8 million?! I think they might have had their numbers a little off. If it does go up that much we better pick up parise or someone.

Based on what? There is not even a new CBA in place.

If it goes up by 8 million the players will have higher price tags. Parise will probably go from 7.5 to 8.5 per year.

Yep and another dead puck/trap defense/ yawner era, but that is not on topic.

Every big market team will be looking to use up that space on good free agents also. Hawks will have to be willing to trade some young talent to use that cap space.

The cap going up that much again is just driving prices for free agents way up. Look at last year and Wiz's contract. ****ing horrible. Guy is worth 3 million on a good day and gets double that. Poor CBJ. So a guy like Suter who might get 7 million a yr on today's market is going to get 9-10 million next year.

I thought I remember reading that the cap was expected to drop next year?

It will drop ,, It wont go away though

It wont ever go away ,, That is reason we had a fight in 2005 to begin with and Owners got the cap in fight and wont ever give that up

If it goes down, they will just roll salaries back to match. Same difference.

Btw in that report that said 8m cap increase... wasn't that the high end? I thought they said more likely was 4-5m.

Even if it just raises 4-5 million, that's a great second pairing defender/elite second line forward PER TEAM.

Parise will get ten million no problem.

So am I wrong to think that the cap going up this much is a bad thing for us?

We're trying to complete our rebuild after our team was gutted and now we finally have cap space to make it happen this off season. But the cap is raising to unreal heights and teams that couldn't afford to sign FAs that we need will now be able to which will leave nothing for us.

The cap isn't going up this much. It's a rumor, and a completely false one.

If this is true - I could see this sending some of the smaller market teams out of business. They may as well give up in Columbus.

They'll be all over him like a tiger on a water buffalo if the cap raises by 8 mil. Jeez Louise, that's a big leap. But then again the Flyers and Preds still have a better chance than most because they can even offer more, don't forget that. I say if it goes up to 72mil they make a push for Suter but I don't see them getting him realistically IMO.

I don't see the Preds increasing their salary much regardless.

The cap going up 8 million makes zero sense for what the NHL is trying to accomplish.

I doubt it's 8 million

Holy ****

Suter and Parise are going to get contracts that look like 10 years 100 million.

Here's a question. While I don't believe the cap is going up 8 mil - let's pretend for a minute that it will.

If it does raise 8 mil - which teams actually spend to the new crazy high cap?
