If it does raise 8 mil - which teams actually spend to the new crazy high cap?
My guess is that Chicago, Toronto, Philadelphia, Vancouver, and Detroit would spend to the cap.

My thoughts were similar. Except I have the New York Rangers in as spending to the cap - but Chicago and Detroit as just maybes.

Rangers for sure, everyone else wound be close. Makes trading for a risk like Heatley/Havlat much more palatable.

Well, right after I posted that, I knew I forgot the Rangers. I came back to edit it and you mentioned the team I forgot. They are going to probably be the most agressive suitor for Parise.

Because it's tied to NHL revenue and revenue is increasing by that much.

Hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling Parise might be a Wing.

The cap might go up to $70m or whatever, but that's BEFORE the new CBA. So....cap going up this high does not bode well for a new CBA, IMO....

Players are going to be looking for huge $$$ on the FA market...and maybe some will get that. But how do you think the small market owners are going to like it when someone signs Parise or Suter for $9m per?

Cap is almost certainly not going to be anywhere near this $70-72m when the season begins. If there is one.

That $8M number is if the PA adds that extra kicker to it. And as already mentioned, the cap is tied to revenues, so it's not like they pull these numbers out of a hat.
And as for a possible lockout, I do hope that both the players and owners realize that an extended lockout is going to hurt them both and that they do everything to avoid one. I have serious doubts the NHL could regain the popularity it has now if another season is lost due to a dispute.

I will belive it when I see it.

my guess is that it goes up by 4 million and with the new CBA, it goes down (with the salarys)

This gives us the chance to get a guy like Parise. This would allow us to have Kane/Sharp as permanent Center
