This thread is solely to discuss the potential backup to Mr. Universe next year. On one hand Bobrovsky is still around. However he has a rather high cap hit for a backup goalie. If he get traded, what would some options be?
Hovinen? Heeter? What about some overseas options, like the often talked about Petri Vehanen and Viktor Fasth who will have a lot of pro experience already? Someone already in the NHL? Would love to hear your thoughts.
There isn't a point to having a young guy as our backup at this level. Sitting doesn't help them get experience. Bob should be traded IMO, and go get a vet guy to play 15-20 games, as Bryz WANTS to play 60.
We really flubbed this forcing Bob into the NHL last season for the entire season. The ML signing turned out to be a disaster...

Brian Boucher would be the perfect fit imo. He's definitely not a no1, but a solid experienced and cheap backup. Did he only sign for 1 year in Carolina?

As much as I like Bobrovsky, if we could get a good pick for him, or go up significantly in the draft, I would do it. The guy needs to play to evolve, and if Bryz has really turned his game and became back the goalie he was before, Bob won't play a lot here. There's no way he'll be a backup for 9 years. And do we really need him considering what we could get for him + his cap hit? Sure, he's a great backup, but I'd take something else.

Like the idea of bringing Boosh back yet again, but at this point, I think rolling with Bobs is a better option. That said, if Ilya keeps this up and we get a great offer for Bobs...

Yeah obviously, Bob is great and I have no problem keeping him if we don't have a great offer, but we'll probably have to trade him soon since we have another no1, so I'd consider the offers.
Keep Bob unless they get a 1st out of him. If they do then sign a vet for a yr then sign Boosh for the following yr and by then Hovinnen should be ready.
