Advanced Statistics. corsi, rel corsi, sv%, fenwick, etc etc. I dont think its good for the team if our 36 yr old who is about to retire is twice as good as the 2nd or 3rd best defender. Means that guys like Carle/Coburn/Meszaros arent even CLOSE to being #1 defenders.

I didn't say it was good, I am just saying that a guy with his cap hit ought to excel game in and game out, that's all.

Yeah, but I must say, I think I'll like Manning's game about as much as I like MAB's and probably more than I like Gustaffson's. Nice to be able to let a bunch of guys compete for a 6th defenseman spot next season.
Yea, I really like that we have young guys already stepping up in our D. Gives me alot of hope for the future. MAB and Manning will be really good in a few years. Especially Manning, for the most part he looked comfortable out there.
I would say play Manning over Lilja and Gus. He has more speed than Lilja and more toughness than Gus. It's not going to kill us to play him 15 minutes or so as the number 6 D-Man. I just think he is more well rounded overall than the other two.

Lavi seems to trust Gus at this point: last two games 22min TOI, almost 19min EV in the last game - more than any other defenseman.
They won't play Manning over him this season, but if he can keep it up he may have a shot next year.

Yep, and Gus has been pretty good the past few games. He didnt look too good when he was playing with Meszaros when MAB was up also, but since his third stint, he has looked pretty good. His relative corsi is 5th best on the team, better than MAB and Meszaros. His regular corsi and sv% are right around there also.

I could see Gus being the Carle replacement.
Manning is too young and not ready yet. He's going to be good though. He's definitely my favorite of the group because he's the kind of guy who can help you in all situations should he develop correctly.
Bourdon is going to battle vets. I don't think he's just going to be gifted a spot. I could almost see him as having to beat out Gustafsson to make the team, something I don't see happening.
