A bunch of us drove down to Washington on Friday morning. Did a bunch of sight-seeing, watched the DC United home opener on Saturday night and then the main event, Leafs vs. Capitals. Sadly the Leafs lost.

Great road trip none-the-less. If you haven't been to Washington, you should definitely check it out.

Woke up, read some of your replies to my Kessel > Nash argument. Was waiting to get trashed...yet your points were articulated in a kind and well meaning fashion.

+1 Leaf fans.

I may be in the minority, but I also actually think kessel is better than Nash.

Lets Compare

Cap hit: Kessel 5.4, Nash 7.8...Kessel wins

Age: Kessel 24, Nash 27....Kessel wins

Production this year(on pace): Kessel 40g 83pts, Nash 28g 55pts... kessel wins

Goals for last 4 years: Kessel 132, Nash 129... kessel wins

Intangibles: Nash wins

I don't see why anyon would want Nash over kessel besides the big name

Crazy losing streak. Nobody tanks better than leafs.

Once we're eliminated we'll surge back to glory.

You can't base it on Kessel's best statistical year and an off year by Nash and make that the focal point of an accurate argument. You have to look at a broader picture. Since Nash's rookie season he has scored: 41, 31(shortened season 54 games), 27, 38, 40, 33, 32, and thus far 24 this season in consecutive years, quite remarkable and consistent considering who he has played with.

Nash was better at 24 than Kessel is now, he is still better as the complete package with comparable stats despite playing for Hitchcock's defensive system and with a bad team after he was fired. Logically one has to ask could Kessel do as much without the run and gun or under similar challenges that Nash has played under? Kessel had it good under Wilson, where players shine statistically, we will see if he can maintain his points production of this year under Carlyle next season.

You asked why some would prefer Nash over Kessel: Nash has a unique skill set of power and finesse, it's easy to surmise what he could do surrounded by better talent. I agree with the experts, I would take Nash over Kessel today in a NY second if a trade was possible.

Further, If we use your same argument in its limited scope for comparable players and not just Nash, then Kessel trumps Jonathan Toews, Mike Richards, Ryan Getzlaf, which would be crazy for any hockey fan to make claim of.

I like Kessel but there is so much more to hockey than those stats posted.

One thing I noticed Saturday is the crowd(at least where I sit) is really starting to turn on Kessel. First time I've noticed it but in my experience over the years this won't change until the Player leaves.
