I'm not usually one to criticize a mock draft, but I thought this was a bit ridiculous as well, with each guy being a few more spots down than they should be. Just out of curiosity though, what was behind putting Matt Murray in front of Jon Gillies? Do they honestly think Murray is a better prospect, or that NHL teams don't trust the USHL enough? Either way they are wrong. Murray must have one hell of a ceiling with those numbers.

The USHL looks to be underrated in this. I'll personally be shocked if Girgensons doesn't go higher then 16, and if Matteau isn't at least an early 2nd. Gillies in the 4th round? Behind Whitney and Makarov? I'm having a hard time seeing that one as well.

Now from the standpoint of my team:

Terrible from a Canes perspective. Absolute last thing they need is defense and goalies, and yet the mock has them using 3 of their first 4 picks on D and 3 of their last 4 on goalies. 6 of 10 total picks on defense and goalies when this team needs top 6 forwards more then anything. It's almost like whoever made this just went off of what a player was ranked, completely disregarding team needs and what not.

Doubt the Canes would select a dman over Galchenyuk when they already have Murphy, Faulk, McBain, and Dumoulin all looking like locks to make the NHL, and 2 of them already being top 4 dmen, all under age 25. But let's just assume they go with Murray anyway, that makes the rest of their draft make even less sense.

Hertl at 32 at least makes sense, but highly doubtful that he's there at that pick.
Pelech and Holland as the next 2 picks though? good god that's bad, that's like inexplicably bad given the picks they have within a few of those. Pelech at 47 when Lukas Sutter is there at 50? And Holland at 65 when Marcantuoni goes the next pick?

I have a difficult time believing that Jake McCabe (Wisconsin) and Austin Wuthrich (Notre Dame) will go undrafted.

You have to keep in mind that the thread is "DraftSite.com 7 Round Rankings". This is not a mock draft. Simply a list of players that this site thinks they're worth. Why would, for example, the canes draft more D-men and goalies? In retrospect we (hf boards) do not know what each teams scouting staff is seeing and we dont know the needs. We can only speculate on what we think. Come draft day there will be many surprises.

Ok, I missed it because they listed him with the NTDP and not Wisconsin, which it should be since it's his current team.

Canucks have no reason to pick Vasilevski they have a top 3 promising AHL goalie in Eddie Lack and a senior Joe Cannata who is the top college goalie on top of Luongo and Schneider in the system.

Then they also have long term projects in Honzik and Illhati

Canucks would take Thrower instead or Bystrom

People need to take this site with a grain of salt. The only viable information I get from it is where certain players might go in the later rounds.

I don't think there's a chance that Edmonton picks Forsberg. Paajarvi is coming along nicely, so he and Hall will be our top 2 LW. Grigorenko or Dumba/Murray is most likely.

It appears to not only hate it but is just absolutely clueless about it.

Stolarz is nowhere near the goalie Matt Morris is let alone John Gilles.

Mike McKee a third round pick while Kevin Roy, the USHL's leding scorer, goes in the 6th round and is ranked behind, among other underwhelming players such as Gillespie, Hinostroza and one EJ winger whose work ethic is worse than Roy's but another EJ winger who plays third line?

Aston-Reese and Farley don't merit even an honorable mention but Adam Chlapik and Matt Deblouw are 4th rounders? Jordan Masters, who was scratched a few times during the season, was sent home for D/R 3 weeks ago so I guess that merits a 5th round selection. Amazing the talent on that Muskegon team!!! No wonder they're in...next to last place.

Miles Koules is a mid-tier player on the U-17 team. He can't outplay the 1995's on NTDP nor can Brendan Silk.

Boo Nieves a third rounder while Jake Montgomery and Mark Janskowski 4th?

Is it possible that the creator of this mock felt obliged to just throw in some US/USHL players to appear "fair and balanced"?

Brock McGinn has 5PTS (4G + 1A) in his 7 games since returning from an injury that cost him quite a bit of time.

If he keeps this up for the last couple games + has a good playoffs I could see him rising a round or two.
