If Saku plays another year. Would any of you be willing to give him like a 1yr 1.25-1.75mil contract. Hes a fan favorite, a good leader, and is still a pretty good hockey player. I love the guy and would love to see him retire a canadien.
Just for fun, had Bob Gainey decided many years ago to build the team by keeping its players and adding drafted prospects and had been very patient with the young players... this could be our team right now.

Not sure if this is an argument for or against. This team just has a knack for finding undersized centers. Koivu, Ribiero, Plekanec, Grabovski, and now Desharnais. I actually think Desharnais could end up the best of the lot...

It's just a lineup based on home grown talent without the Gainey trades and signings. I forgot a few players (Higgins, ...).
I would love to see the habs get Parise but prob won't happen.
What could also be interesting is Alex Semin. He's a bit of a gamble but it could payoff nicely if he clicks, and he could probably be signed to just a 1-2 year contract (at big money, but the Habs have the cap room).

I actually think that Semin would be a better fit in Montreal than Parise.
Well, playing with Pleks and Gionta I think he could be a great fit as the sniper threat. Pleks dishing it, Gionta driving the net, Semin getting to the open ice to shoot.
Could be great on the PP also, Markov sending him those sweet sweet cross ice passes. The right side shooting threat we lost with Kovalev, and only had mixed results with Cammelleri (who's one timer and shot in general seemed to seriously decline...).

Semin-Pleks-Gionta
It's worse than a bad idea, it's a disaster waiting to happen. Plekanec and Gionta aren't compatible to begin with and then you are going to add a player that is almost a certainty to numb both their brains.

Plekanec and Gionta have already done well together in the past and adding Semin could be the missing piece of that line.
Semin has a rocket of a shot and is a very creative player. Plekanec needs a dynamic winger.
If Radulov comes back this season and plays with Nashville, it will be considered as his last season of contract with them.... He will be UFA next July.

While I don't mind Semin at the right price because he can basically score from everywhere with his shot but I'm really surprised that you want a guy like Semin but you keep bashing AK for being lazy, no heart, not a winner etc etc...
I doubt they would want Bourque but I think Havlat and Pleks would be a great combo.
the way Bourque is playing right now, hard to imagine any teams wanting him, especially with 4 years left on his deal...
but, with Centres like Thornton, Couture, Pavelski, Sharks could reason that Bourque would slot in nicely next to one of them and re-gain his 25-30 goal scoring touch.
with 3 years @ 5M$/per, and once again injured, I could see the Sharks being interested in dealing.
Their prospect depth is also pretty dismal, though they do have 2-3 quality goaltending prospects.
Perhaps something like:
to Mtl-
Havlat
J.P Anderson
to SJ
Bourque
one of Palushaj/Quailer/Dumont/Fortier
one of Nash/Pateryn/Didier/Nygren/Sullivan
swap forwards, Sharks gets cap relief & 2 prospects, habs get goaltending prospect
could make sense for both teams (though we'd have to be sure of unloading Gomez and likely Kaberle).
Havlat- Pleks - Gionta
MaxPac- DD - Cole
Leblanc - Eller - ??? (David Moss, UFA from Calgary would be a good fit here)
Moen - White - Geoffrion
Staubitz
that could work alright, but again we'd be in a situation where 1-2 injuries would leave us painfully thin in the top-9.
