Immonen Sets Wolf Pack Franchise Record with 5 Goals

In case you dont read the Wolf Pack threads and a big GREAT JOB to Jarrko tonight scoring 5 GOALS!

TheAHL.com already has an article on him on the night:

http://www.theahl.com/AHL/News/2006/02/04/1426251.html

This looks so nice:

1. HFD Immonen, (19) , 8:18
1. HFD Sparre, (6) (Fedorov, Weller), 12:51
2. HFD Immonen, (20) (Giroux, Fedorov), 4:48
2. HFD Immonen, (21) (Pock, Girardi), 8:25 (PP)
3. HFD Immonen, (22) (Pock, Girardi), 8:25
3. HFD Immonen, (23) , 9:09 (PP/PS)

Seems like he heard Prucha got injured and he went on to make a great case to be the next call up.

(oh yea and Montoya got another Shutout with 34 saves)

You should write in the Montoya shutout in bigger font.

Great job Immonen

I don't think he comes up, though.

good to see pock havin 2 assists (and fedorov, but does anyone seriously see him as a future ranger?).

seems to have been a great game overall for our prospects

Come on guys lets be serious here............

Immonen CAN'T be considered a future 1st or 2nd line prospect until he proves it in New York

I think most here consider Immonen a prospect for the 2nd line center spot. Unless you want to specifically address your statement to your nemisis, it seems the majority of posters (including myself) think he is a 2nd line prospect.

I think it's definitely about time he deserves a cough of coffee as a reward for his stellar play down there.

I think 90-95% of the posters on here pretty much agree he seems like a second line potential player.

He's been heating up again lately and is certainly knocking on that door.

However the Rangers have to move someone soon, and if it's Rucchin it might make sense to do it soon and give Immonen a chance to adjust.

As for the shutout, it's good to see. This is the first time the pack were able to avoid a defensive breakdown since...well probably Montoya's last shutout. They were playing pretty dreadful defense for a good month down there.

Saw Baranka back in the lineup. Liffiton is still out. That might have helped to stabilize the D a little. Montoya should be held onto. I think he'll be fine. Jarkko is IMO probably the most ready of the forwards down there but his upside is second line. Playing him with guys like Hossa or Neiminen or Ward on a 3rd line would not set him back IMO. Could call him up and sees what happens.

With those numbers he's worth a look see, but the AHL is not the NHL

Exacly Edge, potential...

I liked what I saw back in October, and believe he should have a chance. I don't get too excited over players I don't see often. Immonen's one of those guys who seems to have the talent, but has a penchant for disappearing a lot too, as Padawan suggested in his great updates throughout last season. Disappearing often is not a good trait of an NHLer. Perhaps he rises to the occasion, like a Dom Moore, who had a tendency to disappear in the AHL too. I hope, but I can't pencil him into next season's #2 spot just yet. He's had some down stretches in the AHL, and wasn't exactly getting a point or more per game in Hartford. Even with a 5 goal/5 point game he's at 45 points (49 games) and will be 24 in April.

I get impressed when goalies can shut teams out when their team is scoring as the 'Pack did last night. He did keep actve apparently, stopping 30-something shots.

There was an interview of Jarkko in the local paper yesterday. I've been busy so I haven't been able to summarize it. In short, Jarkko did say that the pucks just kinda slipped in whenever he had the chance to score. He also said that he is prepared to stay this season in Hartford because he thinks that unfortunately for him the Rangers are playing well this season. However, he thinks he should get a chance with the Rangers next fall. If not, then he will be disappointed.

That was about it considering the Rangers. He did say something else too but I don't think you're interested that...

Congrats to Jarkko on a great game!

And congrats to our Finnish posters as well who support him.

I'd like to see him up but at this point, there isn't much room. Especially at center. Plus Betts will be back by the end of the month.

For those who have watched Jarkko lately, has he improved his skating?

Perhaps we'll see Jarkko sooner...

we'll see how the Rangers second and third line do without Prucha, and with a winger (Ward) playing center. If Jagr's asked to shoulder the offensive load, Renney may change his stance on team chemistry to look at another line getting things going.

Thanks for the summary, Padawan, but now you've piqued my interest.

So what is it? No decent Finnish food in Hartford?

I've never noticed anything wrong with his skating. Everytime he gets on the ice he just looks like a solid player. He always seems to know what to have good control of the puck and where its going. He's physical as well. It's been great getting to watch him play this season, and I'm glad I decided to drive up to Portland to watch his 5 goal game.

Well, since you asked... Two things. He is going to marry his girlfriend who lives with him currently. She and Jarkko lived together here as well. He listens every JYP game he can via internet radio.

In preseason, he wasn't as fast as Prucha. But also, Petr has that extra gear that not every player possesses. Jarkko to me looked like a solid two-way player.
