Yeah, I never understood how quickly folks call GIH wins. It's like they make it automatic.

Calgary isn't out yet, either, despite nobody talking about them. They are right in the mix and have won 3 straight. LA is in a similar position, but it's LA.

If I were a betting man I'd wager San Jose makes it, but they are going to need to start winning.

I don't think any team in the West is going to be scared of San Jose in the playoffs with that goaltending.

A goaltender can't get worse from one season to the next? This is interesting news.

San Jose this year is pretty much the definition of a "paper team". Lots of names, not much to be impressed with in their play.

I'll use your own logic on this one.

Niemi Trends
2010: Cup
2011: Conference Finals
2012: No playoffs?!?

Dude is trending down big time, just like the Wings since 2009. By this time next year Niemi will be in charge of the Red Wings toilets.

And what are the Red Wings?
Real contenders?
While the Sharks are bums?
Even though the Sharks have beat the Wings two straight years?

Keep getting your superiority high of your sports team, bub. Whatever works for you.

Considering they are 4th overall in the NHL, I'd say so assuming the core players are healthy when the playoffs start.

Bums? No, that's Columbus, Edmonton, and Montreal. A bubble playoff team that's likely a one-and-done? Sure.

Previous playoff results are automatically relevant to this season? What, do the Sharks get spotted an extra goal in each game if they meet the Wings in the playoffs (highly unlikely as things stand), based on past successes?

Question: is it equally as relevant that Detroit has beaten Phoenix the past two seasons as it is that San Jose has beaten Detroit?

Or if Detroit and Phoenix were to meet in say, round 2, do we get to hear a tired re-hash of "Shane Doan is a warrior who is going to make life miserable for the Red Wings" while the previous two playoff seasons are ignored?

Last year Chicago was a goal away from taking down the number 1 seed. You think any #1 seed wants to play the Sharks? You're crazy. Or Their crazy.

There are 4 teams you don't want any part of: Detroit, Chicago, SJ and Vancouver if you have any sense in you.

Sorry my post isn't filled with the kind of stuff that wins you lots of support around here:
LOL at SJ.
They suck.
So much for Havlat and Burns and all the people who said they'd be better and we'd be worse. laugh:
I know they got lucky and beat us for two straight years, but I'm gonna laugh so hard when they get ripped apart laugh:
I know you're just pacing yourself for the Detroit playoff and offseason.

Nah. But if one team is tied or a point back yet they have 2 or 3 games in hand, given the propensity of the 'loser point' GIH mean more now than they have ever meant.

Calgary isn't out yet, either, despite nobody talking about them. They are right in the mix and have won 3 straight. LA is in a similar position, but it's LA.

Well, obviously.

The thing is, if everybody goes around .500 on the way out, points wise SJ will pull out a spot because they have more points possible remaining.

If all SJ does is accumulate points at the rate they have this year to date they'll end up with 93. That means all the teams jockeying with them for position actually have to win at a higher rate than they have so far this year in order to stay ahead of SJ.

Colorado has 78 points in 71 games. Pace for 90.
Phoenix has 79 in 70. Pace for 92.5.
Calgary's on pace for 90. So is LA.

Of course.

I'd expect Detroit to beat Phoenix.
Wouldn't you?

I am also not saying I expect SJ to beat Detroit in a playoff series
I think their struggles this year account for something.

But I think it would be a tough series. And I think people who discount them are foolish. I think a Wings first round loss would say as much about this current roster, in terms of its ability to win, as a Sharks first round loss would say about that team's ability to win.

Call that anti-wings bias if you want.
I call it clear-headed thinking

You're actually right about all of this. 100% right.

It's just you always give other teams the benefit of the doubt, but jump on the Wings for every little issue. I think that's where you're getting ire.

No smart fan is counting the Sharks out. It's more like "Hey, weren't they supposed to be contenders AGAIN? Ha, wrong again sports media and HFboards!" It's premature, but they don't look so hot. It's kinda fun for those of us who enjoy watching other teams fans panic.

I don't go into the Sharks board and post and criticize homer exuberance.
I don't spend much time on the main board.

I guess there really isn't a team that I hate these days.

I don't really like the Sharks, but I don't hate them. I actually like Chicago.
I can't stand the Canucks, but I'd like to see their city get a cup win. I think I'd hate the Penguins if Crosby played every game.

Another thing. Lots of Wings fans seem settled that we're gonna get 4th or 5th place.
I think we've got a shot at first.

Wings Schedule
Kings
@Preds
@Kings
@Ducks
@Sharks
Caps
@Rangers
Hurricanes
Blue Jackets
@Blue Jackets
Predators
Panthers
@Blues
Devils
Blackhawks

Blues Schedule
@Blackhawks
@Canes
@Lightning
@Ducks
@Kings
@Coyotes
Predators
@Hawks
Jackets
Red Wings
Coyotes
@Stars

I think the Wings should have about 15 points by the time they play the Blues, or 106 in total.
I think there's a good chance the Blues hit a real rough patch in the schedule right now. I could them actually going into the game with Detroit in second place.

You heard it here first.

Of course, I am counting on the return of Datsyuk and Lidstrom in short order.

I'm trying to understand your logic here? So looking at the past is irrelevent, unless the Sharks have had some success?

It's okay to look at the past two or three seasons, because you believe the Sharks have done better? But God forbid somebody mention "FOUR YEARS AGO" .

You speak out against "internet warfare", but your blind antagonism only adds to it. Don't kid yourself, you enjoy the senseless fighting more than anyone else. I respect your desire to not conform to bandwagon opinions, but honestly its gotten to the point where you try so hard to be controversial that it has not only become evident to everyone but laughable.

In comparing the Wings to the Sharks, the success would be over the past two years.

I think the obvious answer is the most recent years.

Well I don't much care what you think if you think that, because it's plain wrong. I do not try to be controversial.

It appears that way, i suppose, when a GDT is smoldering with accusations of officiating conspiracies and I am telling people to get a grip.

People pick and choose which posts they want to view as "me"

I just said I think the Wings can win the division. I am sure that falls on deaf ears.
When after the Wings lost to the Ducks, everyone was crying and complaining and bashing, I was the first guy to post "good showing red wings, this is a team that can win the cup."
And the next year they did.

But when I call Kronwall a gutless punk, people go crazy.

My opinions are diverse. Many of my posts aren't even my opinions, but thoughts that ought to be considered.

Many of the things I've said that were controversial
Datsyuk is better defensively than Zetterberg ...
Rafalski's defense is mediocre ...
Lang is lazy
Schneider's defense sucks
Jason Williams sucks

Eventually became commonly accepted by a large portion of the fanbase.
Many proved to be wrong.
this team is doomed with Ozzie in goal
Franzen is no Freddie Modin

Right now, I'm of the opinion that I think the Quincey trade was stupid. I've laid out my case. And over the next few years, we'll track that with glee I am sure.
Some of us will be right.
Some of us will be wrong.
