Damn, Murray is slipping...

I guess this does validate everyone that has been pumping Dumba though.

Just goes to show how much difference a year makes. Murray was almost eligible for last year's draft and probably would have been a top 5 pick.

I still think the team that gets him is going to get a gem. People forget that it took Niedermayer 5-6 seasons in the NHL before he became "Scott Niedermayer."

It isn't just me, scouts see a lot in the kid. I think he will light it up next year. I guess we shall wait and see.

Just wondering what you are basing your opinion on.

You seem very sure of yourself.

Ive only seen Forsberg at the WJC.

You?

Red Line bemoans the lack of North American forwards rated highly in this draft. Not a single North American forward in the top 20.

They recognize it is cyclical but interesting nonetheless.
Eh, well, Galchenyuk's American born and will play for them internationally, if it makes them feel any better.

Same.

What is more likely, you are right? or that every major scout who puts him in the top 5 is right?

No way he would have beat out Mackinnon. Big difference between a top 5 prospect and the consensus 1st overall. If Forsberg was slated to go #2 this year then you might have a case, but as it stands I think Mackinnon would have went 1st overall this year if he was eligible.

probably, you are right, He would go top 3 next year, how about that? He has been listed as 2nd over all on a few lists.

Galchenyuk returns to the Sarnia lineup on Thursday ... that's going to be interesting.

I think he could be a dark horse for the Oilers pick.

Just noticed that Murray is +2 on a team that is -80. that is actually really ridiculous. seriously, -80, I don't think any one realizes how good that is, actually amazing for a guy who logs tons of ice time.

I dont' know much about forsberg either, just the scouting reports and watching at the WJHC. All I know is he shows up top 5 on every list yet no one talks about him. All I am doing is pointing out that he is clearly being under looked on this board.

That is all, but continue to pick a fight if you have nothing better to do.

Im asking you how you can be so sure about Forsberg.

You are telling me its because he is ranked on some lists.

Who is fighting?

Nobody is talking about him because we need another center and at least one dman. Not to mention a goalie. A winger is way down the list of priorities.

The closer we get to the draft, the more I am liking the look of Mathew Dumba.

Positives:
- Skating: Mobility and speed that must be top 1 or 2 in the draft for D
- Offence: Man's the point and has the ability to join the rush (55 pts in 67 games)
- Contact: Hunt's for the forward coming through the middle unaware

Negatives:
- His style is very concerning when you look at his size: 6 feet? 175-200 pounds (at a stretch)

You can never be 100% sure how it will translate to the NHL, but a guy like Niklas Kronwall (listed as 6'0 190 pounds) has no problem playing that style

Lots of small guys are great hitters so I'm not as concerned about that. I'm more concerned about his style of game and how it will translate against faster players who will be able to keep up with him. Right now he's a better skater then most of the guys in junior, but his stride needs work if he wants to continue to be as dynamic as he currently is at the next level.

Exactly people here are still getting the odd nightmares from players like Sully, Nilsson, Cogs & Poo.

Sure Sure, I agree, but people aren't even putting him on their lists. People should at least acknowledge his rank, whether we need him or not.

That is all.

Also, I was very impressed by him a the WJC, he didn't play much on a stacked team, but when he did he look just as good as grigs. So my opinion is based on something.

Next years top five looks really good. I would not bet on this being true. It could happen, but it is no lock.

Forsberg goes anywhere from 3-7 this year most likley. But I cannot think of a situation in which it is to the Oilers.

Yeah they mentioned that but it is kind of interesting.

Not too often you have a draft where so few North American forwards are in the top echelon.

MacKinnon/Barkov/Jones/Shinkaruk/Monahan/Pulock/

Next year's top 5 would be extremely tough to crack imo.

Dumba and Murray are now far above the other d-men on the list (Reilly may have been there had he played all season) But I'm really thinking in just 2 seasons we had a solid top-4 set of

Smid-Petry
Klefbom-Murray/Dumba

Over a 5 year period, that group will just keep getting better, with the 2nd pairing likely at some point evolving past the first.

If we have 1 more bad season after this (praying that we don't), we can probably draft an NHL ready 2nd line forward, and we're good to go (with that 2nd pairing listed likely being NHL ready by then)

Found this mock draft.

http://www.draftsite.com/nhl/mock-draft/2012

1st round: Filip Forsberg
2nd round: Nick Ebert
3rd round: Gemel Smith and Calle Andersson
4th round: Daniel Altshuller
5th round: Cody Corbett
6th round: Brian Morgan

That would be a pretty damn good draft.
