Sorry if you're a fan of Sundström. He has become a useless player. He plays with no grit, no heart and no punch in the offence zone. His defensive play can be easilly replace by other players, and the team just looked better without him.

exactly. His lack of quickness, hustle, grit, heart and offensive skills is making him an useless player. As smart as he can be, I would take Ferland, Lapierre, Kostitsyn, Downie in my team over him.

Which is sad, really. Sunny has had good seasons prior to this one. Then again, so has Theodore.

Not Quite That Bad!

Ummm Useless is a pretty strong word... i would save that for Zednik.

Sundstrom is still a pretty darn good player, he is very effective on the PK and doesn't hurt the team often. The issue with him is that he has played with such skilled players on his national team that as a fan you were hoping for a more offensive side to his game.

With that said, we do have enough 3rd and 4th line players that trading him to a team in need of PK help would not be a bad idea, even for a mid-round pick in the 2007 NHL draft. The 2006 sounds like a pretty weak draft.

Gretzky is quoted a saying the Sundstrom was the most intelligent player he has ever played with (NYR). A trade to Phoenix perhaps... I think we could have gotten Nedved for Sundstrom in a heartbeat.

I wonder if we could have gotten Tanabe for Sundstrom too..hmm?

Sundstrom can still play NHL hockey, he just doesn't fit this team right now.

He is a "soft" player, and we're full of those already. And there just isn't space for him amongst our 12 forwards.

Higgins - Koivu - Ryder
Perezhogin - Ribeiro - Kovalev
Bulis - Plekanec - Zednik
Downey - Bonk - Begin

When you put some dots over the "o" in Sundström it makes his name looks more exotic, like when Moe puts some dots on the Duff beer, so that it becomes a
Düff, that has that sweet taste of imported beer.

That said, I don't really care about dots or not, he still sucks both ways...

Don't know about traded, but he may end up there for next year. Gretz is on record saying that Sunny is one of the smartest players he's ever played with.

What are the odds of that happening?

No need to elaborate beyond the first 2 sentence of the first response. Concise, clear, thought out.

'Little things' can go twiddle elsewhere.

I'm not sure, maybe someone should do an investigation as to what those odds are

I don't agree with the statement that Sundstrom is useless.

Right now, he just doesn't provide anything to the team that we can't get elsewhere. There are only so many players of Sundstrom's mould that we need in the lineup (that is good defensive players that are positionally sound, but not very physical).

You are contradicting yourself. He is not a useless player if you have to replace him. He is expendable because we have Plek and Higgins doing a good job. Any team could use a guy like Sundstrom but with guys like Bulis and Plek he becomes redundant.

Plekanec and Higgins's play have pretty much rendered Sundstrom useless. That and the fact him, Bonk and Bulis are pretty bad on the PK. Dont be surprised if both Bonk and Sundstrom are either with a new team before the playoffs, or in the summer.

I'm sad to hear Sundstrom doing so badly. I've always liked him since he was first rumored to be part of possible Canucks Bure trades. Is he no longer one of the better checkers out there?

Sundstrom IMO is an awesome player to have. Smart, smart player..great defensively...awesome at picking off passes. If his offensive ceiling is 10 goals/15 points in a season nowadays I still wouldn't be concerned, he's a great player to have at your disposal. Bulis/Begin may be better options, but that doesn't take anything away from Sundstrom. Any team would want him IMO

I wouldn't be surprised if Sundstrom was gone, but very surprised if Bonk was. Not many teams want to pay that much for what he does, especially with (I believe?) two more years after this season.

Maybe at the end of next season when he isn't locked up as long.
