Yeah, for one of the league's richest teams, cash considerations is just a way to make the trade seem less lop-sided. The ambiguity makes it seem like we got back millions when for all we know it could be thousands.

A ~50th pick in the NBA draft is a crappy return for a serviceable player like Barbosa.

Still not sure why they did this deal. Unless there's another one on the way where we are taking cap. Just completely unnecessary, IMO. Both guys were gone at the end of the year anyways.

It saves cash (the amount of salary than Indy will pay for the rental and the cash returned) and it fixes the turret on our tank.

I just think we could've gotten more.

Although, doesn't that mean that we also get a TPE, so I guess its not that bad....

We were losing with both of them.. Maybe at the draft we can use 2 seconds and trade up or something..

Would imagine this is a big part of the deal from the Raps perspective. Handy to have.

But then again, wasn't there a big TPE as a result of the Bosh trade that never really got used? (Don't flame me, I haven't paid much attention to the Raps the past few years)

The Lakers have traded Derek Fisher and a 2012 first-round pick (via Dallas) for Jordan Hill

All they need to do is get Kwame from the Chucks and they'll have a monopoly on draft busts.

Correct, the much larger Bosh TPE went unused. That's not to say that this smaller one will also go unused, though.

Bleh. A late 2nd in the NBA is pretty much garbage. I thought BC could have gotten a late 1st for Barbosa from some team.

Doesn't matter. The good FAs won't sign here, and the ok ones we will overpay for. (Hedo, Kleiza)

John Hollinger gave the Raptors a B for the trade:

Quote:
You knew Barbosa wasn't long for Toronto when it used Gary Forbes as the backup point guard against Cleveland two nights ago. The Raps unload their financial obligation for the rest of this season, open more minutes for the likes of Forbes and Jerryd Bayless in the backcourt, and can start seeing how everyone meshes with the recently returned Andrea Bargnani heading into this summer. We don't know the details on the pick but at best it will be in the 50 range, so that part has limited value at best.

The Wizards trying to get rid of their knuckleheads in Young and McGee. Javale is looking for 14 mill a year on his next contract

Meh, pretty much. the NHL deadline is far and away the busiest, so it kind of skews our expectations of deadlines in other sports. Generally, the activity levels in various leagues goes (in order of activity)

NHL > NBA > MLB > NFL

Big moves for Portland today. Got a good return for Wallace IMO. lol @ getting Thabeet though. What a massive bust. Fired their coach too.

So disappointed with the Raptors. They had a good trade chip in Barbosa and all they got was a worthless late 2nd round pick. But I guess it does make the team a little bit worse and they are pretty much a lock now for a top 5 pick.

Man, Denver was dumb to make that deal unless they plan on just letting McGee go after his contract is up. Karl is an Xs and Os system coach. McGee probably couldn't understand a system to save his life.

Is it possible that Myck Kabongo falls to the 2nd round? Anyone know if he's going in the draft? That could be a steal that the Raptors are looking for in the 2nd.

And as far as McGee goes, the guy is brutal..

If it looks like he'd fall to the 2nd, I would imagine he would choose to stay in school for another year instead.

Or would he rather play for the Raptors?

Not a chance. If this kid enters the draft, he is going top 15 for sure IMO. But he might be better off staying back for another year, tear it up and he could be a top 5 pick next year.

Raps get 2nd + cash considerations for Barbosa. Waived Anthony Carter.
