Have a feature in HUT that allows you to narrow your searches farther. For instance, instead of having to look at all the players, contracts, training cards, etc. in the specified price range, have an option to show only the specific card your looking for such as only showing 50 game contracts and nothing else.
Besides the obvious AI issues and general gameplay problems such as cheap goals etc. I have a few suggestions on how to make GM mode better since it is the mode I play the most:
Ownership Involvement:
I'd like to see more involvement on the part of the owner besides telling you how many wins he's expecting, whether or not he's satisfied with the season, and deciding to give/take away your cell phone.
I think it would be cool if the owner weighs his input on potential trades and free agent signings. Something like, "I hear Rick Nash is available, I really think adding a player like that to our team would really help our chances." Also, I think they should bring back the revenue side of the game. However, the GM should have NO control over ticket prices etc. as that is handled by ownership in real life. However, depending on how well the team is doing, the revenue streams for the team will change, and if it gets low enough the owner may issue an internal cap, ask for you to trade a certain player with a high contract etc. If you deny these requests it could lead to you getting fired if the teams revenue does not improve.
Hiring/Firing of Coaches:
I know other people have brought this up and I think it is a really good idea. They have it in the Madden games so it can't be that hard to implement it into NHL. I think you should be able to hire a head coach, 2 assistant coaches and maybe a trainer. I think they should do it the way Madden does where certain coaches improve the team in different ways such as hiring Patrick Roy as a coach will improve the overall of your goaltenders, but maybe decreases the overall of forwards by a small amount. Of course this factors into the revenue thing again, better coaches cost more money and the owner will interfere if you try to hire a coach out of your teams price range.
Improved Trading:
This speaks for itself. Its certainly better than last year but there is definately room for improvement. I guess the most glaring problem is the lake of the barter process. There should be a system where if you make an offer and computer refuses they let you know how open they are to trading the particular player. Such as: I offer 4 1sts for Sidney Crosby and the Penguins message me back saying "Crosby is not going anywhere" so I know the trade can't happen. However I offer 4 1sts for Malkin and they say "This could work but we were thinking more like 4 1sts a 2nd and *insert player off my team here*," and then the process continues until the trade is completed or maybe no agreement is reached.
I would also like to see the trade value of players increase/decrease depending on how the season goes. If Jonathon Cheechoo scores 50 goals one season his trade value should increase (as well as his overall a small amount). The next year he scores 37 and maybe his value drops a little, then he scores 23 and it becomes a trend and his value drops a lot more until he is eventually scoring 5 goals and is essentially worth nothing. I also believe the trade value should factor in the salary of the player. If Cheechoo is making $5 million and scoring 50 goals his value is pretty good, if he's making $5 million and scoring 30, his value is lower.
This process could also apply to free agent signings where it is more of a negotiation than just 2 presses of a button and the guy is yours. Someone mentioned the idea of a mini game which I think could work well.
There are a lot more that I just can't think of right now. Hopefully this makes some sense.
Can the Preds FINALLY be on the right bench? Please?
I'm big on minor details...and this is one of them.
In the game, the home team is always on the left bench. In real life, there are many (don't know the exact number) teams that sit on the right bench. This should be addresed. Also, in Edmonton, the center ice logo should be flipped around because the Cameras in Edmonton (unlike every other arena) are behind the benches as opposed to across from them.
Home team should get the last change. (during a stoppage, a graphic should appear that declares who the road team has put on the ice, then the home team should be able to choose thier line accordingly)
National anthem(s) before the game
Get rid of the useless stoppages of play (glass break, net coming off the pegs, ect)
I really like the idea of having coaches with tendencies and having multiple sets of referees. With different coaches and strategies, and different referees every game would be a different challenge. Certain teams might give you a harder time than others because of the way they play, and this might help to create more rivals in be a GM.
I'd also like to see a better rating system for prospects; look no further than this site for the perfect rating system!! Also, having a little more control over a players progression would be nice. I feel like players get XPs, but I don't have any real control over how they are used. Would be nice if I could assign them and develop a player how I want.
Lastly, I'd like to see even more trade value assigned to top level prospects and draft picks. I don't make many trades; but it is still far too easy to abuse the AI in this respect.
A "y u heff to be mad?" trophy for causing a scrum or having some another player challenge you to a fight.
I lol'd.
I love how EA always says they listen to the fans, yet it's pretty obvious they never do. Every year we all ask for basically the same things, quite a few of them just minor detail things, and every year they're not included. I have a feeling they just look at video game review sites, see the high scores and think the game is spectacular.
I really wish they'd take a year off and start from scratch. I'm tired of the same game every year.
There should be a category on the trading block for players you're not willing to move. It's obnoxious to get a barrage of crappy offers at the draft for a guy you wouldn't even trade for a good offer.

Entirely new presentation. It's time for a revamp. The animations are pretty bad, and it doesn't come close to replicating the feel of being at an NHL game. They need to play some NBA 2K12 and take some notes.
I'm really tired of being stuck in the "battle for position" animation in front of the net, when I'm behind the defenseman and logically should be able to break off and skate away. I like this feature, but it needs work in NHL 13.
So for example...Jonathan Huberdeau could be a Playmaking-Sniper(PP specialist)...Primairy Attribute is Playmaking,Secondary is Sniping...and PP specialist gives him a off-stat boost on he PP?...sounds good

Someone posted a bunch of videos of examples of dynamic player physics. Like, if you run into a person, you both react to it.
That kind of action would be perfect for the game (especially since it would provide for a much less predictable game plan), and would increase the realism 10 fold.

its just annoying as hell when you dont want to get in the battle though
and the computers are really good at tying me up, but I cant do it to them. if I try to engage them by pressing the stick forward i end up tying them up half the time, and the other time ill shove them and get a penalty
And it HAS to feature the ability to re-sign your free agents prior to the free agency period. I think it's stupid that you can't offer a player in the final year of his deal an extension. It screws me up at the trade deadline.
Yeah I'd like to see that as well, and they could even make it similar to the CHL Be a Pro so you could receive offers from NHL teams if you have success in the CHL.
