They were prolly thinking 4-5 mil was too much at the time.
John Tavares and Tyler Myers
I know you are allowed to do it before it runs out, I was suggesting they would rather let his contract run out instead of them giving him with a big contract and much larger expectations, just let him focus on his hockey and worry about the money after.
I wish we had signed EK last year after he made the all-star team. Everyone was expecting 50-60 pts and some study progression. Now cat is out of the bag and so will the contract unless his agent is a retard.
Easily worth 7+ mill now with the 25-26 amount of minutes he eats up and what he does out there.
I think you have to be on the last year of your contract before being able to sign an extension, I am not sure if Ottawa would have been able to talk to his agents on July 1st or if they would have had to wait for him to play a game this season.

Myers was a rookie the same year as Karlsson, signed his before his third year started.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL You sound just like some of my cousins who live there As for the trolls on those EK threads there is no point in getting through to them, they have their heads up their ass and really dont know what they are talking about.
Interestingly i find that with Karlsson i almost dont care and cant be bothered to debate or argue.
He is awesome, he is good defensively, he is the best offensive dman in the league by a mile.
and i dont care if fans from other teams dont think so or want to run him down.
He's so exceptional it speaks for itself.
he's ours and THAT is all that matters.
i think i may respond to any of the crap with, "yeah i guess you're probably right. cheers"

Agreed. Its hard to get sucked into an argument when we know how special of a player he is and we're lucky enough to watch him every game.
Outside HF I find most people think he'll win the Norris even non Sens fan. I had a Blackhawk and Leaf fan tell me I was crazy for thinking Weber is going to win.

I tend to agree, I had this discussion with my bf after we saw a game this weekend, and I was saying he had to be nominated but not sure if he'd win. He was like, before tonight I may have agreed, but he is a force to be wreckoned with and he should win. My bf is a leafs fan. And he told me I should hang karlsson poster on my wall. And he has a man crush on him!
I agree. We've got to stop responding to the EK troll threads. It's just some people spew out garbage... It's like they have never seen him play, and just go by the stereotype... He's young, he's small, putting up big offensive numbers therefore he must suck defensively.

they're just jealous and/or naive. haters gonna hate
Yo GUYS, guess what? I tweeted @NHL like 50 times last night and I checked this morning and saw that Karlsson now has the extra point he should have got against the Habs.
Yeaaaa buddyy!

Ahlieee fam, these mans dunno wah be gwanin. They need to nizeee it.
I dont care about the main board threads anymore... Earlier in the season I did, since many people genuinely didn't know about him, but now that he's getting a ton of media attention, the haters are either jealous or trolling. There's no point in arguing with them, they'll never change.

Just replace technology with Erik Karlsson. It's a common thing, something new and exciting comes around, those close to that thing will be the first to spread the word, initial excitement in generated and tons of positive praise is produced. Then it peaks and people start looking for negative aspects and making them more apparent for whatever reason (jealousy, counter-culture, whatever). I think Karlsson just hit that point about a month ago. I bet by next year he'll "rebound" and plateau as a universally recognized elite defenseman.
Weber will win the Norris this year, but if Karlsson replicates or improves then it should be between him and probably Letang and Weber again, but I think Karlsson will start a string a nominations this year and pick up at least a Norris in his career.
