Our defense has been complete garbage lately. Even against the Canes they were lucky not allow at least 4. They remind me of the Bruins in their defensive collapse. Brutal. Now we have the Avs and Red Wings to look forward to. Pittsburgh is the MUCH better defensive team. The one area where we could have some pride (outside of Hank). Pittsburgh has schooled us on how to play defense since game 1.
Rangers desperately needs the energy of their captain. And above all they need to get back to the video, look at their widespread mistakes and finally stop doing them- no hitting, no tight defense, no drive to score. or just...
Did the tight schedule finally get on them and they need a rest?

McDonagh at least made an attempt on 5th goal. Bickel was literally standing still looking at the ceiling.

McDonagh was directly responsible for 2 goals... he has been overplayed by Torts and needs a serious reduction in icetime.

I think any rational person knew this one was a loss as soon as it was announced that Crosbaby was returning and the game would be on NBC Sports Newtork with the Pittsburgh broadcast.
The Ranger play aside, the Bettmans got away with murder on ice all night long.
The fourth Pittsburgh Bettman goal was a direct result of a no-call on Gaborik, who probably would have had a breakaway.
Glad the NHL got what it wanted, a gift-wrapped 5-2 Bettmans win at Madison Square Garden in Crybaby's return, described by the two biggest homers in all of sports.
Officially worried about this defense. They have looked like complete **** for the last ten games or so. I don't know if it is from fatigue or not but they are making irresponsible and stupid plays. If they want any type of chance to make some noise in the playoffs that needs to be fixed FAST.

Everyone else is at best average. We didn't have 4 of those players today, which would excuse this loss if Pittsburgh wasn't completely decimated by injuries all season and still winning.
I'm just confused how a standard body check, a bump into a goal post and a wrist shot have sidelined three of our better players for as long as theyve been out.

Look at the dumb-**** mistakes that gave Cooke the a-hole 2 goals.
Fixable.
Rangers had lots of chances. It's not like they weren't making some stuff happen.
Some people have to step up, that much is obvious.

Ever since we got destroyed by the Hawks, the defensive turnovers have been out of control and Torts has not fixed it. I would bench the next player who passes directly up the ice, who plays with the puck too much in the defensive zone instead of getting it out, any blind passes, and calm the **** down with pinching. It's fixable if we had a coach who would actually point out mistakes and hold the team responsible.

I personally don't fault him for the first goal, my beef with Bickel is the numerous times when he takes stupid penalties. He takes A LOT of penalties and coincidentally a lot of bad penalties.
