That's because when push comes to shove, the true quality of a line-up always shines through.
Always.
A team can underachieve enough over 82 games to miss the playoffs, but rarely does a team overachieve enough over 82 games to make the playoffs.
And we all knew coming into the season that this team wasn't, on paper, made to make the playoffs.

then when we are out of the playoff race and eliminated, we play good to great hockey down the stretch, just so we cant draft a dynamic player in the top 3 instead we through shots in the dark hoping the Nino's stromes and deHann's work out.....

Two things:
A) We'll have to see if good hockey comes at the end of the season. The team has been lousy since the deadline. I don't see more than MAYBE five victories to conclude the season. Even going 5-7 down the stretch is highly unlikely.
B) I wouldn't say that picking guys like Nino and de Haan are 'shots in the dark'. But at least de Haan isn't being thrown to the wolves. Of course, the number of shoulder injuries he's had since being drafted is extremely alarming! Niederreiter's mishandling this year has been nothing short of disgusting.
