He is the analyst for MSG Network, and considered by many to be the top analyst in the league, well at least the top this side of the border. He was a goalie in the 70's. Played for St. Louis before coming to the Rangers.
John Davidson was a popular television entertainer in the early 1970s known for a smooth singing style, great hair, and not asking too-tough questions on his highly rated talk show. Eventually he parlayed the huge earnings from this program, the Hollywood Squares program, and his high-grossing Las Vegas revue into sole ownership of the New York Rangers. As such, he is perfectly suited to the public relations role he performs on behalf of both the team and the league, whether it's emceeing celebrations such as Mark Messier Night or appearing weekly on Satellite Hot Stove between the 2nd and 3rd periods on HNIC, which time he takes out of his busy schedule at the direct behest of good friend Gary Bettman in order to help maintain New York's prestige and visibility at a high level even when the team is performing poorly.
Messier's "people" are in discussions with Sotheby's but no final arrangements for the plaque auction will be ascertained until the end of the current fishing trip. I'll be dropping in at Hilton Head for a few beers and will keep you up to speed if possible.
