I think it boils down to whether Oilers fans would be willing to send RNH/Hall/Eberle to PHX. If they think the top few picks in the draft are so great, shouldnt they be able to replace RNH/Hall/Eberle with their own lottery pick?

Obviously 5 games makes a player. Maybe your definition of "elite" is narrower than mine, but a 20-year-old kid playing 26 minutes who is the best defensive defenseman on his team and the second best offensively on a good blueline is nothing to scoff at.

Notice how all the 'Yotes fans/people who watch a lot of OEL are against the trade, and all of the Oilers fans are for it? Should tell you something.

I think it's funny how fans from other teams try to come in and tell Phoenix how good OEL is. No offense but PHX fans would no better.

And like I said earlier he looks better than Yandle whenever I watch them. A PHX fan agreed with me so maybe the Yotes would move Yandle over OEL if it came down to it.

Trading OEL for the second pick is a huge risk I don't think PHX as a franchise is able to gamble on that risk. I don't know why everyones jumping all over Yotes fans for being down on the deal. Actually most of the fans jumping in seem to have no clue about PHX as a team anyways

Oilers fans are aware they need a really solid defensemen from somewhere, while yotes fans are clueless of their need for high end forwards?

I completely understand why a team wouldnt want to let OEL go, but what pieces do the yotes have that would garner young, top line talent?

Did you not see the word "spec" as in "prospect"?

I get why you wouldn't trade him, but I also get why you would.
I really don't think drafting Filip Forsberg, Mikhail Grigorenko or Alex Galyenchuk, with a pick you trade for OEL, is merely as bad as you are making it out to be.

That said, they may be able to keep him, and trade Rundblad/Gormley along with their 1st, for a similar spot in the draft.

OEL is the best of the Blue liners in PHX. They have other options they could trade. It's like if last season if someone wanted EK from the Sens they had a lot of defensive prospects and depth. Still EK was the best of the bunch and you don't trade they best one. The Sens instead chose to trade Runbland..

Phoenix has incredible depth on the blueline and really need an impact player at forward.

OEL is 20. Yandle is 25. Schlemko is 24. Klesa is only 29. Plus Phoenix has been playing two rookies this season - Summers (24) and Stone (21). Then add on Rundblad (20) and Gormley (20) that both could play in the NHL next year!

It won't be OEL but I can see this summer Phoenix trading one of the other guys (choose from Gormley, Rundblad, Klesa or maybe Yandle) along with a pick or a prospect to get a top forward.

And when he turns out to be the next Daigle, you'll do the same.

Cut the smartass **** out, doesn't add anything...

Ekman-Larsson is a stud, no way the Coyotes would this. Just look at what TOR had to give up for Kessel

OEL for a younger version that might not be a guarantee is just redundant.

Worse example ever, that was a horrible trade for TOR, only a GM as bad as Burke would do that trade

You wouldn't have to argue that, he has been our best defensemen and it's not that close.

I am about as much of an Oilers homer as possible - there is a zero percent chance those picks land OEL.
IMO I feel he is as untouchable as 4, 14, and 93.
No chance!

Ekman-Larsson was amazing against the Canucks. Totally looks like the heir to Lidstrom's throne.
