I think most expect him to continue his previous playoff performance. If he is invisible in the playoffs, I think more fans will start to panic.
Thats how I stand on him, he has had a down season but the jury is still out until the postseason. Even then I would argue he is allowed to have a down year on a long contract like this. Would I be open to listening to trade offers for him, sure, but not actively pursuing them as if he needs to be moved. I think he has earned the benefit of the doubt from his past play.
I'm worried because even when the HBL wasn't producing they spent extended shifts in the offensive zone. At center, whichever line he is on seems to get regularly pinned in their own end.

That's his saving grace with me. If the playoff performance declines it's hard to justify keeping him and that 6.5 mil cap hit. Homer has got to get those photos could be all the leverage he needs to trade Danny. As a professional athlete why would you ever put yourself in that position. Brett Farve was even dumber instead of sending them to a porn star he sent his to a reporter, WOW, talk about stupid.
Not worried right now he is trying but not getting the luck as long as hes there come playoff time if he isnt then i'd worry we never know there could be something going on with him that we will never know about..
I honestly don't think that he is going to "flip the switch" in the playoffs. He's been terrible all season. He looks like he just doesn't care out there at times. If thats one thing Briere has never been in his career, it's lazy.

Well, without knowing him, I feel 100% confident and saying that I am sure he does care, he isn't the type of player to not care. I mean, you could see the relief when he scored the EN goal the other night.
6.5 million for a guy that's always relied on his teammates to be useful. Huge waste of cap
Agree. He has, unfortunately, become a "one trick pony"- he will find the net if someone sets him up.
The analogy for his role is a wide receiver in football; even the brilliant ones will not succeed without good QB. He does not have a "QB" right now and most likely won't have for play-offs either. Therefore, I would not expect him to "flip a switch" in PO.
4 games ... Everyone but JVR crapped the bed in that series.
But if his current play continues into the playoffs it's definitely time to get worried.
If he's not scoring Danny's just not useful at all.
I thought G played well against Boston as did Richie. Richards was doing the little things just not scoring. I guess that's the key, some guys can still contribute to the team when they're not scoring whereas Briere is useless to the team unless he's scoring. Overall I think he's trying but I'm getting worried and I really can't see how he can just turn it on for the playoffs. I would look into moving him this off season if for nothing other then the cap space, but I truly doubt that happens. This seems to be what most are saying
I'm not saying that its not all his fault but laviolette does some whacked out line combos sometimes. rinaldo with jagr is weird. Briere hasn't had good solid line mates since last year and i don't think he's gonna get them. he's out there by himself. It's on him to fix it and right now he definitely.......blows~

Wasn't he playing with Simmonds and Read for long stretches? Personally I don't think it has that much to do with line mates.
I think it's just a case of a player getting old. The concussion didn't help either. One positive is that, after this year, he will have only two years left on his contract. Maybe he waives his NTC and we can ship him to, say Columbus, for their 1st rounder this year.

I think that even thought the Hartnell-Giroux-Jagr line has been our best all year, it would do wonders for briere to be on centering them with giroux on another line. Or at least Harntell-Briere-Voracek, or something along those lines. It seems that almost every year after the trade deadline he is put on a line with hartnell and it becomes our best scoring line in the playoffs. Examples being the HBL line and the Harntell-Briere-prospal line from a few years ago. Maybe something like
Thanks for the correction. Thought it was 2. This was what I was worried about when Holmgren originally signed him to the long term contract, that we would be stuck with him when he began to decline.

So far he has played with Read, Simmonds, Voracek, Wellwood, Jagr (for some shifts), and Schenn They honestly have looked better when taken off his line than playing on a line with him (well Voracek and Wellwood have looked solid wherever they have played). Only one he hasnt played with is Hartnell, who is having a career year on Giroux's line.
You know something is wrong when you play better off Briere's line than on it.

And then find a place for JVR when he comes back healthy
idk but i wouldn't mess up something thats working and has been for the majority of the season just to get Briere going. Flyers are the highest scoring team in the league and thats with Briere only potting 14 goals. i know playoffs are a different story but still. i guess trying it for a game or two wouldn't hurt.
