If any of you venture out to the U.P. of michigan, I recommend pick axe blond ale, red jacket amber ale, and widow maker black ale. All brewed by the keweenaw brewing company, they might sell these elsewhere but I haven't seen them.
Bit the bullet and grabbed a sixer of Hopslam. Phenomenal. One of the best beers I've ever had. Not nearly as hoppy and bitter as you'd think. Extremely fragrant, lots of citrus, seemed like grapefruit and pineapple, and the honey. Very flavorful.
Of course I had three of them and now feel like crap today.
mmm....funny how my beer consumption has dramatically dropped off after having a kid. Beer--i miss you!
re: chili beer. I suspect it's lower grade lager but that can only help the Serano flavor come through. It isn't something where you're going to say "I detect subtle notes of cocoa and rosehip".

Yeah lowest I saw for a sixer was ~15 so I wasn't sure if I wanted to drop that much on it without ever trying...maybe I will now.
Definitely pick up at least one sixer if you are a beer guy in the least. Hopslam isn't necessarily the best name for it as it's not nearly as bitter and hoppy as say Furious, but it's got a lot more flavor and balance. The kicker is 10% alcohol, so it's actually like a 12-er instead of a 6-er, hence the price.

It's actually a lot hoppier than Furious on the IBU scale but the amount of alcohol hides that fact.
Bought some Bud Light Platinums as a joke because of the whole @DadBoner thing. They're not terrible, but not good either. What's impressive is 6% alcohol in 135 calories. And it doesn't taste like rotting corn like most American light lagers. But it's overly sweet and carbonated to cover up the lack of hops and flavor. Tastes like a fresher light lager with a spoonful of sugar in it basically.
And then one of them broke in my trunk and it wreaks and I have to clean it this weekend.

Huh... as someone who hates hops bitterness, sounds like a beer I need to try.
It's not a good thing, mind you, unless you're the kind of person who likes light beer and/or alcoholic energy drinks.
It's literally using sugar to mask the lack of flavor, which is extremely crappy for beer lovers.
I'd point in the direction of malty ales like Newcastle (and the stronger ales) or wheat beers like Blue Moon or Sunset Wheat instead.
I will say if you want to get drunk, dislike hard alcohol, and don't care for you beer flavor, especially if watching calories, it's great for that specific niche.

Well I do not have a sense of smell, so all I taste when I eat something sweet is the sweetness of it and how strong the sweetness is. So I think I'll give it a shot sometime if I ever get to the liquor store.
