I'm sure I'll get railed for this, but:

FORWARDS
Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Zach Parise ($7.000m)
Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Jiri Hudler ($3.500m)
Drew Miller ($0.837m) / Darren Helm ($2.000m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.750m)
Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) / Joakim Andersson ($0.875m) / Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m)
Jan Mursak ($0.550m)

DEFENSEMEN

Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.000m) / Ian White ($2.875m)

Jakub Kindl ($0.883m)

GOALTENDERS
Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Yann Danis ($1.000m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,579,166; BONUSES: $275,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): -$279,166

- Outgoing: Franzen, Cleary, Holmstrom, Emmerton, and Ericsson
- Incoming: Parise, Suter, and Danis
- Called up: Nyquist, Andersson
- Re-signed to raises: Hudler, Abdelkader and Helm
- Quincey taking a paycut (after the QO)

It'd be tight, depending on how much the cap moves next season, and there's still a roster spot open...

Sad reality... 3.5M in capspace they won't use either, hahaha.

Although Lidstrom is more of a 5M dman now. He doesn't even score points this season, this year will be his worst or second worst season in his career as far as scoring.

^This.

Maybe add a 2nd tier UFA in there somewhere.

As much I want/hope we get even one of Parise or Suter, this is the most realistic outcome. I think I even posted something similar to the above in another thread.

And riots will ensue.

It's really not a bad team, though, and that's the worst case scenario regarding whether or not we bring in any outside help. My only gripe will be that Nyquist should have a bigger role.

So, do we suppose somebody is gonna get traded to clear some roster space to make any moves? Anyone?

I know 2013 is far away, and a lot of the big names will be re-signed by then, but that UFA pool looks very deep regardless. I could live with retooling this offseason, and making a big splash in 2013. Once again, it depends on how many get re-signed.

How to make a Cup Contender out of the 2012 UFA List (barring the wrath of the near all-mighty injury bug), for relatively cheap if the Cap goes up by what is expected.

I imagine Cleary will be moved with a prospect/pick for something. I hope it's Cleary + picks for someone's rights or prospect + pick for Dustin Brown. Rumors that Kings would trade Brown and make a hard push for Parise in the summer. 2 more years at 3.125 doesn't sound bad to me.

That's my feeling too. But i'd rather just trade Cleary for picks so as not to clog up more roster space.

I see Hudler getting re-signed, or they will at least try to. Smith, Nyquist and the other promising prospects have a few years left on their entry-level deals. Helm is a RFA and will not be getting a big contract. Filppula's current contract stretches over next season. The Abdelkader/Quincey $ will remain about the same with their new deals. Eventual free agent signings will be covered by our cap space, Homer and Lidstrom(hopefully not next season though). So we're not in need to get Hudler off the books for next season nor would we get any better by doing so.

I can see Kenny stretching as far as up to $4M/yr on a 2yr deal, or $3.5-7M/yr for 3yrs. In a perfect world, a $3-3.5M/yr for 2yrs would be ideal. Next year is no problem anyway you slice it, and the second year of the contract would be covered by Cleary coming off the books and potentially the cap ceiling going up. So it wouldn't interfere with Filppula/Smith/Nyquist/Howard getting new deals.

However, I'm afraid Hudler will be looking for terms. With the recent contracts out there and this year's production from him, Hudler could get ~$4M with decent terms on the market. If he prices himself out of Detroit I won't shed any tears but I hope we can keep him for another year or two. It wouldn't be a shocker if he does, seeing as this could be his last chance to cash in.

I don't want Hudler unless he signs a very cheap deal.
Not because he is a bad player but I think we need a different type of top 6 player (we have enough play makers)

Flip - Z - Franzen
Bert - D - Semin/Parise/Nyquist

Plan A. Parise
Plan B. Semin
Plan C. Nyquist

With Plan C, we wouldn't take on any salary and it would be better to try to re-sign Hudler to a one-year deal. Hudler playing on the 3rd line is better than unused cap space. He could also be a solid dangle at the deadline to get some sort of return. And with the inevitable injuries to top6 players during the season, he'd be a legit plugger.

What's the salary cap going to look like next year? I read somewhere that it could be $60M because of the new CBA, is that true?

It could go up this summer but then in the new upcoming CBA it can go down, by a lot too.. so teams will probably be careful this summer.

I don't know the whole economic part but the NHL will want more money and less money to the players, the players get 58% or something like that, the NHL want it closer to 50 like the NBA and NFL.
