I can't wait to see what he can do with Datsyuk.

What gives you the impression that he'll see any time with Pavel? It's not in the article and Babcock has shown he likes using just about anybody on those top lines over Nyquist - Bertuzzi, Cleary, Homer, even Abdelkader.

I'd love to see him on a line with Pavel, but I don't know why we should think it's going to happen anytime soon.

This. If there's a line combo we want to see, it is not going to happen. Simple as that.

I would also love to see him play with Dats, but that's wishful thinking for sure.

What we will see is:

Bert - Dats - Cleary
Flip - Zeta - Huds
Nyquist - AKader - Miller
Mursak - Emmerton - Holmström

Ah, I thought it said something in the article based on the OP.

Cleary on the top line is an insult to the term "top line"

Of course Babcock will continue to trot Cleary out like he is some kind of special player.

What could we possibly lose at this point by trying him at the top line for one game?

Well we'd immediately lose the frusteration brought on by Cleary's attempt at being a 1st line winger.

Well we can't possibly lose that.

So keep him on the fourth line with Emmerton and Homer. Probably the best line for him.

Put Cleary, Burt, and Homer on the 4th line and we can call it the Loyalty line

Nyquist will likely slot on that 3rd line, lets be honest. What Henkka posted.

Most likely. The only thing that I could imagine changing that is if Abdelkader bombs horribly slotting into Helm's spot. If Helm is out for any length of time, and we need a third line center, Flip's the only other option. Flip gets bumped back to center, we'd need a guy like Nyquist for the top6.

Filppula will not be on the 3rd line. Franzen would go there before him.

We're gonna miss Helm on the PK. Because of that concern, I just can't get excited about Nyquist being up with the team right now.

I thought the Red Wings were supposed to save the first year of Nyquist's ELC?

How long is Franzen supposed to be out?

Two more games for Gustav and he burns his 1st year..

I think using Nyquist in NHL has no effect to his ELC years. It's only for junior aged players, University/College level players, or players drafted from Europe and playing there. The first year started "burning", when he played his 1st AHL game as a pro at this season."

What comes to waiver exemption, Nyquist signed his 2-year ELC a year ago as 22-year old, so his limit is 3 years or 70 NHL games (including the playoffs) to lose the exemption.

So it's mainly next season's stuff.

Nyquist is skating with Datsyuk and Bertuzzi this morning according to St. James.

Interesting...

Last few games have made me super depressed. Not much to talk about.

mmh.. thx...

i guess Henkka is right guys?

if so, that would negate the only reasonable explanation i gave to myself as to why the Red Wings were not using Nyquist instead of other replacements (I thought it was meant to preserve his 1st year of the ELC).

They should try him with Dats, IMO. GN has shown great potential and created lots of offense while being on the team. He has earned his spot. 14-13-44, 51-40-26, 39-8-11, 96-48-20. Time with Dats will give him some self esteem offensively, and when playoffs come, GN and Helm would create som serious damage on third
