I think he should do that. It would be better for development and would also give him plenty of time to grow. The Flames should be in no rush to develop Gaudreau.

Yeah I don't see him leaving early. The Flames don't typically rush players either so I think they'll be content for him to stay at BC.
When this post was first made I thought it was ridiculously optimistic, but now I'm beginning to wonder. Gaudreau has had the kind of year you don't see from rookies in top college programs.
Having seen Gaudreau and Pat Kane play at the same level and at the same age, their skills match up pretty closely.
If Gaudreau was born a month later, he would be in the 2012 draft, and undoubtedly be mentioned as a potential first rounder. Hes that skilled. When on the ice against Kenny Agostino, I didnt even think it was that close as far as skills, Gaudreau was better.
Hes basically a 17/18 year old in a 15 year olds body. Which makes what he does even more amazing because hes playing against guys that have grown much more then him.
He will definitely turn heads, and is a lot of fun to watch.
Kane is basically an average sized male- just small by NHL standards. This kid is small even by normal standards for a guy his age.
I mean there's a chance if he really is that skilled but I can't see him becoming a bottom sixer with his size. I guess we'll see. Steal of the draft? A little early to say.

so would I and his work ethic sounds like its there, so I think its possible for him to be small but have excellent lower body strength like crosby does when he leaves college. Gaudreau is definitely a project, I am thinking 4 years of college and 2 years in the AHL before getting his chance in the NHL, you know assuming he makes it. If he is an NHLer in 6 years or less I will be shocked, then again if he can score like he has the 2nd half of his freshman season next year he may shock us all and turn pro.

Thats a great resume for an 18 year old kid,I just watched a clip of last game and WOW, he doesn't small out there at all,if anything he looks like a man among boys, he made a lot of defenders look very stupid.
Having watched him, he is an extremely skilled player. He also goes into traffic areas, hunts down pucks, and plays with possession. He has a great chance to be a top 6 NHL forward.
He doesn't look as noticeable small out there as he used to. It used to be "that really small kid out there has a ton of skill." now watching him this year, he's blending in as far as size with the rest of the players. He's definitely grown over the last year.
That being said, genetics aren't on his side. He's going to play most of his life at 5'8" 165 lbs. Not big, but there's a handful of successful pros that have played at that size.
Also, I can't see him playing more then 2 years in college. Next year, barring injury, he will be on the US WJC team, and likely rip up Hockey East. With that progression, he should be an AHL player at 20-21.

A point in Gaudreau's favour is that he's doing it in college rather than major junior. A group of 18-24 year olds is going to be more physically similar to the average NHLer than a group of 16-21 year olds.
Boston College seems like a great place for a smaller forward to develop his game. Unreal goal last night. He had a seeing eye pass in the semi-final game that I don't think any more than a dozen or two NHL players could have made. Looks like a winner but I'm kind of thinking he's too small to be a center in the NHL--might be better off on the wing.
