I see that he is a +10 in only 32 something games.
He has slowly gotten better as the season progressed. He so big and has a wide reach that he's been used a lot on penalty kill. He has really worked on his defensive play and that's why his plus/minus numbers are good.
Pirates continue to ‘self-destruct’ By Chris Roy Published: 17th March 2012

Portland Pirates head coach Ray Edwards was not impress to say the least by his team’s performance.
The Pirates gave up four unanswered goals in the third period to the Springfield Falcons en-route to a 5-1 loss before 3,697 at the MassMutual Center on Friday night.
Lately, even on the days of games, I go to the official site to look at the Box score and it's just blank. I don't know if I'm clicking the wrong thing, or it has to do with the AHL site...

Portland, ME – The Portland Pirates must have missed that the game was listed to begin at 7:00pm because they didn’t show up until midway into the first period.
The Pirates overcame a two-goal deficit to earn a 5-3 victory against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers before 5,155 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Pirates bitter at loss to the Whale By Chris Roy Published: 18th March 2012

For 58 minutes the Portland Pirates played well enough to earn two points in regulation.
It was that two-minute span that got’em.
Namely, it was a 58 second span at the start of the second period that proved costly as the Connecticut Whale edge the Pirates, 5-4, in a shootout, Sunday afternoon, before 3,457 at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut.
How bad defensively are Rundblad and Goncharov? I noticed Mr. Rundblad is almost the worst +/- (-13) on the team despite playing only 18 games. Kind of impressive, in a bad way. That being said, he'd be almost a 30 goal scorer with his current pace.

I think the +/- is misleading in his case when he has been on the ice quite often for ENG against, and forwards just can't seem to score when he is on the ice (even on breakaways). I have seen 10+ pirates games with him on the ice, sure he has some work to do but he just seem haunted with minuses imo. Not saying he is great defensively but he is not so bad as the statistics says. IMO
Prince Albert forward Justin Maylan has been signed to an ATO by the Pirates. Led Prince Albert with 89pts (26g, 63a) in 72 games.
Can anyone confirm that this is a precursor deal with the Coyotes for next year? If so then I suspect this would be heavily influenced by our Director of Scouting on Rick Knickle. First Shinimin and now Maylan.
I'm more and more convinced that we go with BPA at the draft... even if that means taking a D.

Glad to see him get a shot in the pros. I worked with him a few summers ago in Calgary, really good kid. Prince Albert was a disaster this year, but he preservered to put up some really impressive numbers. Slick playmaker with really good puck skills and vision. Didn't really have a much to work with in PA either. +/- rating pretty solid as well considering how many goals that team gave up.
