This past draft has some potential to be one of THOSE drafts for us.
Time will tell, but it looks like Shero may have hit a home run with his 1st and 2nd rounders. Reminds me a lot of the Steelers 2007 draft where they got Timmons and Woodley.

The Jofa stuff brings back memories. Selanne actually still wears the old Jofa helmet. Can't help but notice that every time I watch him. The color of the logo on his helmet is stripped because of legal issues, but you can see the Jofa engraving.
It's weird. I've heard some Baby Pens fans complain about him at times, but every time he's up with the big club he looks like a damn stud out there. He's just so big, mobile, strong along the boards, excellent puck mover, gets pucks to the net etc. He's got a lot of good attributes and a very high ceiling as a prospect.

I think in the AHL he tries to do too much because he thinks he's such a stud now. I've seen him try to skate through everyone and turn the puck over many times in the AHL where he wouldn't dare do that with the big club because he would not play the next game. Hynes has sat him a few times for stupid plays but he has so much skill that he would never healthy scatch him. Besides, the AHL is where you want the kid to make those mistakes and learn from it. He definetely is the most skilled defender down in WBS but he still is young and needs to learn how to manage the puck according to the game situation.

Makes sense. I know from reading a lot of your other posts that you follow the Baby Pens about as much as any of our posters.

Alex Picard scored a hat trick tonight in a 4-1 win against Worcester. And Simon Després got into his first pro fight (though only against a non-fighter in Tony Lucia). DeFazio, Walker and Sneep also fought.
Good News, Tom Kuhnhackl was back in the lineup for Niagara after missing games with what I assume was a concussion. Bad News, he finished pointless and -1 in a 7-3 victory. Adam Payerl picked up both goals in Belleville's win over Sudbury. Scott Harrington finished + 2 in London's 3-0 win over Erie.
Actually "The Kuhn" was back in thursdays game when Niagara won 8 to 1. He had a goal and finished with a +1 rating. Good to see him back none the less. Lets hope he can stay healthy and have a good playoff run

That's great, seemed like he hadn't scored for ages.
For those who have watched a lot of WBS...how have Thompson and Gibbons looked? I just looked up WBS stats, and I expected a little more statistically from the both of them this season.

Thompson shows some promise but I don't think Gibbons will ever make it to the NHL.
Looks like G.I. Joe got rested for Portland's regular season finale, an 8-2 drubbing of Seattle. The team finished first overall in goals for, power play percentage and third overall for the PK. Not too bad after losing Niederreiter and Johansen to the developmental black holes in Columbus and Long Island.
For those that follow the draft, Keegan Iverson and Alex Schoenborn were added to Portland's roster. Both are highly-touted American prospects for 2014. The Winterhawks have quite the collection of American born talent for the next few drafts with those two plus Chase De Leo, Brendan Burke and Dominic Turgeon.
Portland and Spokane in the WHL, plus London, Niagara, Barrie and Belleville in the OHL all made the playoffs. Only Sault Ste. Marie missed the cut so the Baby Pens could bring in Joe Rogalski on a tryout now. Not sure they'll want to, though, as WBS is pretty stacked on D prospects.
